Vehicle thefts in the United States declined by 23% last year, hitting their lowest levels in decades. According to a recent National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) report, 659,880 vehicles were stolen in 2025.

While those numbers represent a historic low for U.S. vehicle thefts, this still comes out to one vehicle stolen every 48 seconds. That's a rough reality for drivers looking for peace of mind or a way to save money on car insurance, especially if their vehicle is one of the top 10 most stolen cars in America.

These 10 car models are the most stolen in the nation.

Total 2025 Thefts: 8,445

Car thieves favor the Nissan Altima, in particular the 2020 model, because it is vulnerable to "relay" or keyless attacks, according to MotorBiscuit.

Using a device that detects key fob signals, thieves are able to manipulate the Nissan Altima's computer to unlock and start the vehicle remotely.

Thieves then take these Altimas to used car dealerships where they get clean titles, new VIN numbers, and sell them.

Total 2025 Thefts: 9,809

One of the most unfortunate aspects of the Honda CR-V being among the most popular small SUVs in the nation is that it is also one of the most stolen.

Thieves use reprogramming tools to mimic or create new key fobs for newer CR-V models that they find and steal from unattended parking lots, according to Observer Dispatch.

Total 2025 Thefts: 9,833

The Toyota Camry has garnered praise from reviewers because of its outstanding fuel economy, spacious, quiet interior, and easy driving experience.

Toyota Camrys also have a reputation for reliability and longevity. With this model being so popular, there is strong demand for its parts, which makes it a popular target for theft regardless of whether it is a new or older model, according to a study by the Zebra.

Total 2025 Thefts: 10,102

The iconic Ford F-150 has been the best-selling truck in America for nearly 50 consecutive years and the best-selling vehicle in the nation for 44 years. Unfortunately, it was also the seventh-most-stolen vehicle in the country last year.

The Ford F-150's popularity also makes it a likely target for thieves. With so many F-Series units sold each year, it's relatively easy to find one of these pickup trucks on most streets in America.

Total 2025 Thefts: 11,521

The Korean automaker may have dropped the Kia Optima from its lineup after 2020, but it still accounts for a remarkable number of auto thefts as the sixth most stolen car in America last year.

Many Kia models, particularly those that the South Korean automaker produced between 2011 and 2021, did not come with electronic immobilizers, according to Business Insider.

The feature requires a singular chip to be present in the vehicle's key for the car to start. Without it, it's easy for thieves to break a window, dismantle the steering wheel column, and start the car by plugging a USB cord into the ignition.

The Honda Civic was one of the top dozen best-selling vehicles in America in 2025, while also ranking among the top five most stolen.

Older Honda Civic models from the 1990s and early 2000s don't feature the same anti-theft technology as more modern cars, making them easy targets for car thieves, as reported by the Zebra.

Although the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lags behind the Ford F-150 in popularity, it does surpass it in total thefts. Overall, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was the fourth-most-stolen vehicle in America in 2025.

Like the Ford F-150, the immensely popular Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is easily found throughout the nation. Thieves tend to target pickup trucks because they offer high resale value and feature expensive components, which could be dismantled at "chop shops" and then resold to shady vendors and repair shops, states Forbes.

The Hyundai Sonata was the third most stolen vehicle in the nation during 2025. According to NewsNation, a pandemic-era TikTok trend informing people how to circumvent the Sonata's security measures has led to it becoming one of the most stolen vehicles in America since 2020.

Despite not being one of the top 25 best-selling vehicles in the United States last year, the Honda Accord was still the second-most stolen vehicle in the nation during 2025.

Car thieves often target older Honda Accord models from the '90s due to their lack of modern anti-theft technologies, which have become standard features in more modern cars.

The Hyundai Elantra was the most stolen vehicle in the United States during 2025. This was the third year in a row that the Elantra topped the NICB's list as the most stolen vehicle in the nation.

However, Hyundai has also made efforts to curb these thefts with roaming pop-up clinics across the United States that give Hyundai drivers upgraded anti-theft software.

These efforts are working, too. Only 21,732 Elantras were stolen during 2025, which is less than half of the 48,000-plus Elantras that were stolen in 2024, as reported by NewsNation.

While vehicle thefts in the United States dropped a staggering 17% from 2024 to 2025, which is the largest year-to-year decline of the past 40 years, many metropolitan areas throughout the country still remain hotbeds for vehicle theft.
