The world's largest furniture chain is getting just a little bit bigger. IKEA has over 500 brick-and-mortar stores worldwide; however, only under 100 of those are located in North America. But lucky for shoppers, IKEA will be adding new locations to its roster.
Interim CEO Rob Olson believes these new locations will build momentum towards making IKEA more affordable, accessible, and sustainable. And despite a challenging external environment, IKEA performed well in 2025 by helping consumers looking to keep more cash in their wallets.

Colorado
- Fort Collins: 4250 Corbett Drive
IKEA's announcement of a new location in Fort Collins came as a surprise to the city, which learned from the furniture giant's press release like everybody else. The 64,000-square-foot facility will occupy the former location of Urban Air Adventure Park. The new IKEA will likely open in the winter of 2027.
Florida
- Sarasota: 147 N. Cattleman Rd
The new store in Florida will be approximately 48,000 square feet in the University Town Center. Shoppers will also be able to schedule personalized design consultations. While IKEA originally expected the location to open this summer, USA Today reports that it will now open in Winter 2027.
Illinois
- Gurnee: 6170 W. Grand Ave.
The Swedish furniture store will be trying out a new format at Gurnee Mills Mall. The smaller format is intended to make the IKEA experience more accessible and convenient to urban centers, and it will be 40 miles away from the nearest location across the border into Wisconsin. It is expected to open in Fall 2026.
Oklahoma
- Tulsa: 7309 S. Olympia Ave.
Tulsa residents have to travel to Texas or Kansas City to access the great furniture deals IKEA offers, but that will change this fall. The furniture store will be occupying the former Belk clothing store space at the Tulsa Hills Shopping Center.
New York
- Buffalo: 1 Walden Galleria
A new store will open at the Walden Galleria shopping center in the winter of 2027. At 65,000 square feet, it will occupy the lower level of the former Sears and Sears Auto.
"Opening in Buffalo allows us to reach more customers and provide greater access to affordable, well-designed home furnishings," said Interim CEO at IKEA U.S. Rob Olson. According to Olson, the new store will feature 3,250 items available for immediate pickup.
Wisconsin
- Madison: 215 Junction Rd.
This 54,000-square-foot location is slated to open this fall. It will be part of the Prairie Towne Center in what was formerly a Bed Bath & Beyond. While an exact opening date has not been announced, shoppers can look forward to over 5,000 products on display, along with a Swedish deli.
Other IKEA locations opened in 2026
In addition to the locations announced above, IKEA has also been opening "Plan & order points." These locations have a smaller format where customers can work with staff to design spaces and place orders for home delivery rather than shop a full warehouse store. They all opened earlier this year:
- California: 1200 Auto Park Way (Escondido)
- California: 5755 Johnson Dr. (Pleasanton)
- California: 585 Saturn Blvd. (San Diego)
- Georgia: 378 Newnan Crossing (Newnan)
- Kentucky: 7735 Mall Rd. (Florence)
- Pennsylvania: 1111 W. Baltimore Pike (Media)
Bottom line
So, what makes IKEA so special? It's not just the furniture that has allowed the company to withstand economic downturns. Each shopping location also features a restaurant with classic cuisine favorites from their home country, such as meatballs or Swedish pancakes — both served with lingonberry jam.
