Senior discounts are among the most underused savings tools available to many shoppers over age 55 (or, in some cases, 50). The extra percent off you can score at some of your favorite stores makes it easier to stretch your budget.

It doesn't matter how well you've prepared for retirement — the more you save, the better. And that means knowing how to take advantage of special offers that are just for seniors.

Not sure where to score the best deals? We've got you covered with the top retailers that provide exclusive offers, secret shopping days, and other bargains for more "mature" shoppers.

Editor's note: Prices and availability are subject to change and may vary by location.

Kohl's

Score a discount on everything from tennis shoes to table decor every Wednesday. Kohl's offers 15% off qualifying purchases for customers ages 60 and over.

Of course, there are a few restrictions. Along with providing proof of age, the retailer has a one-discount-per-customer (per purchase) limit, and you can only use this offer in stores.

While you can combine the discount with some other dollar-off coupons (like Kohl's Cash), you can't combine it with other percentage-off deals.

Walgreens

Save on OTC meds, haircare, groceries, sunscreen, cleaning products, and more at this drugstore.

Adults ages 55 and older can enjoy exclusive savings in Walgreens stores just by joining the myWalgreens loyalty program. Members could get 20% off eligible regular-priced merchandise on select days. But wait, this isn't the only way to save.

Use the store's SENIOR20 code to get 20% off eligible items online. Some brands and types of products (like COVID test kits and gift cards) are excluded.

Michaels

Get crafty for less. Whether you're an avid scrapbooker or dabble in watercolors, you can save money at Michaels just by enrolling in the store's Rewards program.

Seniors 55 and up get 10% off eligible purchases in stores and online. You must provide proof of age to snag this deal, and you can only use one discount per day.

Goodwill

Goodwill stores are already stocked with a bounty of bargains. Even though the low-priced gently used merch is already a steal, seniors can save more once a week.

Adults ages 55-plus get 25% off every Monday (with a valid ID). You cannot combine this offer with other discounts.

LensCrafters

How can you save money on glasses? While LensCrafters doesn't have a stand-alone offer, AARP members are eligible to get 20% off select frames, 50% off select lenses, and 30% off non-prescription sunglasses.

To qualify for the senior discount, you must have a valid AARP membership and purchase a complete pair of glasses. Shoppers cannot combine this offer with other offers or vision insurance.

UPS

Send packages to your family and friends without breaking the bank. AARP members could save 15% off eligible products/services and 5% off eligible domestic and international shipping services.

Qualifying products and services include mailbox services, printing services, packing services, moving and packaging materials, office supplies, computer services, fax services, and shredding.

Exclusions apply, and qualifying products and services could change. Always ask a UPS staff member about current deals before you pay.

Fred Meyer

Are you looking for a way to save on groceries? Fred Meyer shoppers ages 55 and up qualify for a senior discount on the first Tuesday of every month.

This includes a 10% off deal on select items in-store and online, including private-brand groceries and nutrition (Fred Meyer, Kroger, Simple Truth, and more), apparel, shoes, accessories, select home goods, and some electronics.

Ask a sales associate for details and exclusions.

PetSmart

Pet parents ages 65 and up could score 10% off Grooming Salon services on Tuesdays. Shoppers must join the retailer's Treats Rewards program and provide a valid ID.

Walmart

Walmart doesn't have a standalone senior discount, but there is a special way for retirees to save money at this superstore. AARP members can get $40 off an annual Walmart+ fee.

Even though you don't need a membership to shop at this retailer, Walmart+ benefits include free shipping, free store delivery, fuel discounts at Exxon, Mobil, and Murphy stations, one year of free Paramount+ or Peacock, free pharmacy delivery, auto care discounts, 25% off digital Burger King orders, and more.

Get a protection plan on all your appliances

Did you know if your air conditioner stops working, your homeowner’s insurance won’t cover it? Same with plumbing, electrical issues, appliances, and more.

Whether or not you’re a new homeowner, a home warranty from Choice Home Warranty could pick up the slack where insurance falls short and protect you against surprise expenses. If a covered system in your home breaks, you can call their hotline 24/7 to get it repaired.

For a limited time, you can get your first month free with a Single Payment home warranty plan.

FTD

If you have an AARP membership, you can save money on flower delivery. Members get 25% off purchases on FTD's website, 30% off select items, and $15 off an FTD Plus membership.

Thirdlove

Intimate apparel is an added expense that might not fit into your regular budget. But AARP members get $25 off a purchase of $75 or more from Thirdlove's website.

Unlike some senior discounts, this is a one-time-only deal.

GE Appliances Store

Need a new fridge, stove, or dishwasher? Seniors who have an AARP membership can save 10% or more on eligible GE, Profile, Monogram, Haier, and Hotpoint products from the GE Appliance Store's website.

Bottom line

Retailers don't always advertise senior discounts. And when they do, these deals often come with stipulations. Always ask the cashier or a store employee about percentage-off offers, applicable rules/regulations, and specific age requirements.

Are you looking for other ways to keep more cash in your pocket? Here are our favorite money-saving strategies: Download store apps to score electronic coupons or get access to online-only bargains, swap brand names for generics, and compare senior savings to other discounts (like Kohl's Cash or loyalty club points) before you pay.
