As much as we've loved the low prices and typically smooth shopping experience at Aldi, there have been a few inconsistencies lately at the discount grocery store that have us a little less than excited about spending our hard-earned cash there.

Aldi shoppers have been finding one too many faults with their favorite chain. While most won't give up their primary grocery store, some customers have been considering switching it up due to the overall product inconsistencies.

If you want to keep saving money at Aldi, make sure to peruse customer reviews before making your purchases.

Here are some reasons shoppers are starting to fall off the Aldi train. Do you agree?

Get a protection plan on all your appliances

Did you know if your air conditioner stops working, your homeowner’s insurance won’t cover it? Same with plumbing, electrical issues, appliances, and more.

Whether or not you’re a new homeowner, a home warranty from Choice Home Warranty could pick up the slack where insurance falls short and protect you against surprise expenses. If a covered system in your home breaks, you can call their hotline 24/7 to get it repaired.

Aisle of shame

One of the most popular sections of the store is the "Aldi Finds" section, where customers can discover a wide variety of home, garden, and other products, such as kitchen organization, holiday cards, slippers, and rugs.

However, some customers have started to notice a decline in quality and an increase in overpriced items.

"The 'aisle of shame' is pretty much all overpriced Temu quality junk that will end up in the landfill, and I question anyone's judgment who goes on and on over how much they love it all," wrote one Reddit user this March.

Discontinuation of feminine products

As of 2024, the grocery chain stopped carrying its collection of feminine products, including pads, liners, and tampons, both from the Aldi Blossom line and name brands like Tampax. According to Aldi Reviewer, the products have been officially discontinued, frustrating numerous customers.

"It's really bizarre and frustrating that they did this," wrote one Reddit user and Aldi customer. It's such a basic feminine need. Betting a man made the decision."

Inconsistent and low-quality electronics

While Aldi is known for having a wide variety of electronic products, from hair clippers to seasonal lights, some customers have started to notice a decrease in quality and life span.

"I'll never buy Aldi electronics again. I bought a wireless speaker for roughly $30 last year, and it died after 40-45 days (just past the 30-day warranty). I can't trust those products," one Reddit user wrote.

Change in regular products

Customers' go-to items have allegedly started to change. One customer was disappointed about the change in taste of their favorite snack: the Protein Puffs.

"I've been eating these for months, bought them today, and they taste super tomato-ey and waaay less spicy. Why Aldi, why? The flavor is a night and day difference for the worst," they wrote on Reddit.

Another shopper found the same issue with their favorite instant coffee, saying, "I've been drinking the instant coffee from Aldi for years now. I found on my last trip to Aldi that the packaging for the coffee has changed. Unfortunately, so has the flavor. It is MUCH weaker than it was previously when using the same ratios to make coffee, and the taste just isn't there anymore."

Discontinued favorites

Aldi has garnered a cult following thanks to its highly popular items, like the Millville cereals and Benton's cookies. However, even some of these coveted products have started to dwindle from shelves in certain areas. Others have been gone for years now.

"How many years has it been?? Rip Cocoa Rice, may Millville merchandisers find a new vendor someday," wrote one customer on Reddit.

Low stock

Avid Aldi shoppers know that the chain typically restocks their shelves every week on Wednesdays, giving its customers access to their favorite items.

However, some shoppers have begun to take notice of certain items that are constantly missing or are not being restocked for weeks.

"Has anybody else noticed that you can't find the same items anymore?" wrote one Reddit user. "Basic things, too, like yogurt, cheese, and meat. Every week, something else goes missing, and so far hasn't been replaced with a new item yet."

Concerns with product safety

Most grocery chains experience a fall in product quality now and again, but Aldi shoppers have been disappointed in some of their favorite stores' products.

While the chances are that these are one-off situations, some customers are still nervous about overall safety.

One shopper posted this March on Reddit about his experience with Aldi's milk: "Aldi shopper here… we just dumped a gallon of Friendly Farms milk and opened another to the same strong smell and taste of bleach or chlorine, similar to that of pool water."

Apparently, another customer in a similar region of the country (Illinois) experienced the same, referencing "similar milk smell/taste with the same expiration date stamp."

Higher prices

Inflation is hitting every area of consumerism, and that even includes our beloved and affordable Aldi. Despite the chain keeping prices low for years, customers have started to notice a rise in price of some products, and don't think these high tags are worth the products themselves.

"Finally got the Blueberry & Marbled Cinnamon breakfast loaves in my area," wrote one customer. "Tried the Blueberry and have to agree it is very tasty. But with these being over twice the price ($4.29 vs $1.99) of the regular raisin cinnamon ones, I doubt I will get them again."

Bottom line

If you're a for-life Aldi fan, don't be discouraged. The chain still offers many lower-priced products than most grocery stores and continues to be a go-to for about 25% of U.S. customers as of 2025, according to Retail Today.

It's worth noting that if you want to save money shopping at Aldi, make sure you compare reviews and experiences from real customers online. This way, before you shop, you can find out if your top products are still in stock and taste the way you like them.
