When you're in the market for a new car, buying something reliable and affordable is the best way to keep more of your money. The last thing you want to do is purchase an automobile that requires constant maintenance and won't make it anywhere near 100,000 miles without incurring significant repair costs.

This is particularly true for SUVs. If you want the roominess and safety that come with an SUV, you'll want to avoid expensive, unreliable vehicles.

Here are 10 new SUVs that are built to last for years.

2026 Mazda CX-5

Starting price: $29,990

The CX-5 already feels like a grown compact SUV, and AWD comes on every trim. It's the compact you keep driving after the commute. You get a 187-hp 2.5-liter and a 6-speed automatic transmission, so there's plenty of power in every turn.

With a reliability rating of 7.9 and an average life of 169,500 miles (about 15.7 years), this is an affordable car that won't require much upkeep.

2026 Subaru Crosstrek

Starting price: $26,995

If your commute includes snow, buy the Crosstrek. Symmetrical AWD is standard, the ride height eats potholes, and it lasts around 167,594 miles, or 13.6 years, with a 7.6 reliability score. There is a reason this car has the best resale score of any car on the list 8.7; it's built to hold up under even the toughest conditions.

Starting price: $29,995

People leave the Crosstrek for the Forester when the dog crate and the rear-facing seat both need to fit, and you still get standard AWD plus the extra cargo and rear-seat room.

It carries the same 7.6 reliability score, but iSeeCars only gives it 142,898 miles, about 10.7 years, roughly 25,000 miles shorter than the cheaper Crosstrek.

2026.5 Nissan Rogue

Starting price: $29,490

Nissan's volume crossover still offers great quality at an affordable price. You see it in school pickup lines because it seats five without feeling tiny. The 1.5-liter VC-Turbo engine makes 201 horsepower feel much faster. The Rogue's reliability score is 7.2, with an average life of 143,517 miles (11 years).

2027 Chevrolet Equinox

Starting price: $29,000

Chevy's two-row LT feels bigger than the compact crossovers above it, and the heated seats on the base trim are a real win with a 1.5-liter turbo.

The 11.3-inch screen is standard, so you don't need an extra package for it. The reliability score is still 7.2, but the expected life is 133,131 miles (about 9 years), a shorter run than that score implies. If your last car made it to 150,000, look at the Mazda or the Crosstrek instead.

2026 Jeep Compass

Starting price: $28,995

AWD is standard, which is why people still look at Jeeps this small. Dirt roads and winter on-ramps are the use case. You're getting the ground clearance and the 8-speed automatic, plus a 2.0-liter turbo.

With a reliability score of 7.2 and an average life of 133,231 miles (10.5 years), this sits right next to the Equinox in terms of overall value.

2026 Chevrolet Trax

Starting price: $21,700

The Trax sits you up like an SUV and still fits a city parking space. It's the one you park on the street without sweating the length. You give up AWD, and that's the trade for the reduced price.

The 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder makes 137 horsepower, which is among the lower figures on the list. Still, the reliability score is 7.1 with an average life of 135,700 miles, about 10.7 years, so this car will last around the same length as many others on the list.

2027 Kia Sportage

Starting price: $28,990

Rear-seat room and cargo are why the Sportage started showing up in school lots. You sit higher than in a sedan, without going all the way to a three-row SUV. But, car seats and Costco runs actually fit this car. AWD is available for a slightly higher markup.

However, with a 7.0 reliability score and a lifespan of 132,230 miles (9.8 years), the Sportage is not without risk. Kia's 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty is worth keeping in mind here.

2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Starting price: $23,300

You could get AWD on the Trailblazer, and the front passenger seat folds flat so lumber actually fits at Home Depot. Reliability is on the low end of the list at 6.9, with an average life of 133,148 miles (8.9 years), though value retention is 8.1, which is stronger than the lifespan rating.

You're getting the cheaper sticker and, later, a used-car buyer, for a shorter run than a Mazda.

2026 Hyundai Tucson

Starting price: $29,700

No small SUV iSeeCars ranks gives back-seat passengers more legroom, which is the Tucson's real argument over something like the Trax.

Longevity is where it slips. The Tucson scores 6.8, with an average life of 121,993 miles (9.4 years), below the 7.3 crossover average.

Bottom line

A low sticker price doesn't always mean a better deal. The SUVs on this list vary widely in expected lifespan, and the cheapest options tend to wear out first. Before you sign anything, think about how long you plan to keep the vehicle, then weigh the purchase price against the years you'll actually get out of it. That math matters more than the number on the window, and it's one of the smartest money moves a car owner can make.

Whichever one you land on, you're buying below the market. The average new car sold for $49,855 in July 2026, so every SUV here starts at least $19,000 below what the typical buyer pays. A smaller loan means a smaller monthly payment and less interest, and a vehicle that lasts a decade or more means years of driving after the loan is paid off.
