Waiting can be hard, but for NFL fans, patience has traditionally been rewarded, at least when it comes to getting the best price on football tickets. In the past, we've analyzed secondary ticket markets and found that the best time to buy regular-season NFL tickets (including playoff tickets) is in the days right before a game, with the best overall deal often on game day.
The Super Bowl is no ordinary game. That outside and outsize interest means the Super Bowl is guaranteed to be the hottest NFL ticket of the year, and historical prices reflect it.
To see if the unique nature of the big game changes how the ticket market operates, the FinanceBuzz research team analyzed more than 15,000 secondary-market ticket sales from the last four title games to see when fans can get the best prices on Super Bowl tickets.
Key findings
- Best time to buy: The lowest average prices for Super Bowl tickets are consistently found on the day of the game and the day before.
- It pays to wait: Since 2020, Super Bowl tickets on the secondary market dropped 44% between the time teams are finalized (2 weeks prior) to game day.
- Cheap seats = bigger savings: Get-in prices (the cheapest tickets available) were at least 50% lower in the week before the game for three of the last four Super Bowls.
The best time to buy Super Bowl tickets
While Super Bowl tickets can be found on secondary markets throughout the season, sales activity tends to be most significant in the two weeks leading up to the game. This makes sense since that's when you know which team will be playing following the Conference Championship games, and whether your squad will be playing for the Lombardi Trophy.
We analyzed "get-in" prices (lowest prices in the two-week period prior to the game) for Super Bowl tickets in each of the last four years to find when prices are typically the cheapest.
| Super Bowl | Location | Teams | Highest Get-In Ticket Cost | Lowest Get-In Ticket Cost | Cost Difference |
| LVI (2022) | Englewood, California | Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals |
$6,495 (14 days before game) |
$3,225 (3 days before game) |

| LVII (2023) | Glendale, Arizona | Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles |

| LVIII (2024) | Las Vegas, Nevada | Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers |

| LIX (2025) | New Orleans, Louisiana | Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs |

For every Super Bowl from 2022 to 2025, tickets tend to be most expensive in the days immediately after the conference title games, when excitement is high, and fans can confidently begin planning a trip to see their squad compete. As a result, the highest get-in ticket price was found either 13 or 14 days before the game, while the lowest get-in price came within a week of kickoff. On average, get-in ticket prices drop 44% between the Conference Championship games and gameday.
Managing your ticket purchase
These prices are per person, so you can see how quickly prices add up if you're taking family or friends. Not to mention the cost of travel, hotel, and dining out costs. Consider using one of the best travel cards for your trip. Or use it before your trip to earn points that you can apply to the big game.
Price trends: Average Super Bowl ticket prices vs. get-in prices
While get-in prices are typically the most affordable way to go when it comes to Super Bowl tickets, some fans are looking for an upgraded experience. Though price trends are similar for better seats, the average overall price for Super Bowl tickets can be more variable and sometimes significantly higher than the get-in price due to factors like better amenities for certain tickets, limited seating, and high demand.
Every year since 2022, the best get-in price for the Super Bowl has offered massive savings compared to the overall average price for tickets purchased in the two weeks leading up to the game. For each of the last four Super Bowl games, people who simply want to get into the game have been able to buy tickets at prices at least $3,500 below the average by being patient and waiting for prices to fall, showing just how valuable hunting for the right get-in price can be for fans.
