These 29 Kroger Stores Are Closing in 2025 (Is Yours One?)

Grocery stores like the well-known Kroger can be go-to stores for shoppers looking to save money on groceries. At times, these chain stores must make changes to stay afloat, even if that means closing a door.

In June 2025, Kroger announced that 60 locations would be closing across the U.S. over the next 18 months. Kroger's first quarter 2025 sales report reflects the need to close multiple unprofitable stores. The company plans to reinvest the savings into improving customer experience.

While Kroger has not released a full list of the planned closures, an extensive list is still available, giving many customers an idea of what to expect.

Here's what you need to know about Kroger's store closures and whether your nearest store is at risk.

• Atlanta: 2452 Morosgo Way
• Alpharetta: 11877 Douglas Road
• Decatur: 3479 Memorial Drive
• Brookhaven: 3855 Buford Highway

Georgia is looking at four store closures in the metro area between now and fall. The Atlanta location is set to close as early as July 19. Customers of the Brookhaven location may continue shopping at Kroger until Oct. 18. 

Meanwhile, the Alpharetta location is set to close on Aug. 16, with the Decatur location closing on Sept. 13. Additionally, a new Kroger Marketplace store opened at 2301 College Station Road in Athens on April 30, replacing an existing Kroger at the same location.

• Peoria: 3311 N. Sterling Ave.
• Buffalo Grove: 450 W. Half Day Road
• Bloomingdale: 144 S. Gary Ave.
• Northbrook: 2323 Capital Drive

Four Illinois locations are closing throughout August, including three Mariano's locations. The Peoria location is planning to close on Aug. 2, followed by Mariano's Buffalo Grove location on Aug. 8. Mariano's Bloomingdale location is set to close on Aug. 15, and the one in Northbrook on Aug. 22.

• South Bend: 4526 W. Western Ave.
• Elkhart: 901 Johnson St.
• Columbus Jay C: 201 High St.

While specific dates have not been announced yet, you can expect two Indiana locations to close in early August. Those stores are located in South Bend and Elkhart. 

A date or even month has not been announced for the Shoals location, but it's on the list of Indiana closures. Earlier this year, Kroger celebrated the opening of a new store in Fishers, located along the Allisonville Road corridor.

• Louisville: 4211 S. Third St.

Currently, Louisville is the only Kroger location set to close in Kentucky, making this state one of the few facing minimal impact of the store's closures.

A date has not been announced for the store's closure yet. Fortunately, Kroger is opening a new location on Beulah Church Road in Louisville in late 2025 or early 2026.

• Bossier City: 4100 Barksdale Blvd.

Like Kentucky, Louisiana has only one Kroger's location on the list of upcoming closures. The store is closing in Aug. 2025 after decades of serving the community. The Bossier City location opened its doors in 1980 as Bestyet and rebranded to Kroger in 1985.

• Rockville: 11845 Old Georgetown Road

On July 20, the Harris Teeter (a subsidiary of Kroger) in Rockville, Maryland, is set to permanently close its doors. There are currently no plans to open another Kroger in Rockville. 

However, customers can find another Harris Teeter location in Potomac at 12525 Park Potomac Ave. (which is less than a 20-minute drive, depending on traffic, according to Google Maps).

• Raleigh: 5563 Western Blvd.

Harris Teeter's Plaza West location in Raleigh is scheduled to close by July 20. While there are no current plans to open another Kroger in Raleigh, nearby locations include Glenwood Village, North Hills, and Olde Raleigh Village. 

According to Google Maps, the drive is about 20 minutes or less from the closing location, depending on traffic.

• Kingsport: 1664 East Done Drive

Tennessee is yet another state facing minimal impact from the Kroger store closings. Only one store, which is in Kingsport, is on the current known list of store closures. The store is set to close on Sept. 19, so customers can still use the store and pharmacy for a few months.

• Dickinson: 3410 Gulf Fwy
• McKinney: 1707 W. University Drive

Customers should expect to lose two Kroger stores in Texas. The Dickinson location, which was the city's only Kroger location, closed in June. The McKinney location is also set to close, but a date has not been announced yet. 

A replacement store opened in Plano on January 24, 2025. Kroger also plans to open stores in Little Elm and Fort Worth locations, with both projects set to break ground in 2025.

• Charlottesville: 1904 Emmet St.
• Abingdon: 466 South Cummings St.
• McLean: 8200 Crestwood Heights Drive
• Arlington: 950 S. George Mason Drive
• Arlington: 3600 S. Glebe Road., Suite W100

Virginia is set to lose five Kroger locations, with three being Harris Teeter stores. The Charlottesville location is scheduled to close on Aug. 22, with the Abingdon location closing on September 19. 

As for the Harris Teeter stores, both the McLean and Arlington locations are set to permanently close by July 20. The Arlington location closes on August 4.

• Gassaway: 2908 State St.

The Gassaway location is scheduled to close on Aug. 22. It's the only Kroger store in the city. As of right now, there are no plans to open another Kroger in Gassaway.

• Glendale: 1735 W. Silver Spring Drive
• Milwaukee: 3701 S. 27th St.
• Milwaukee: 2355 N. 35th St.
• South Milwaukee: 2931 S. Chicago Ave.
• Oak Creek: 2320 W. Ryan Road

Pick 'n Save, owned by Kroger, is closing five stores in Wisconsin. Specific dates for these store closures have not been announced. However, customers can keep an eye on the storefronts for "Going Out of Business" signs.

If your closest Kroger location is closing, you may find an alternative to save money shopping at a location within a 30-minute drive from the closed one. Plus, Kroger plans to offer the affected team members positions in remaining stores, providing peace of mind and job security.

If you live in a city where the one Kroger store location is closing, you should look into alternate stores altogether, especially if you need an on-site pharmacy.

Fortunately, there are currently 2,904 stores open, and Kroger plans to open 30 new stores this year, so you may find a new spot in the future.
