We have good and bad news for car owners in Florida. Let's get the bad news over with: According to our research on the most stolen cars in every state and data from the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), Florida ranks third for automobile thefts (behind California and Texas).
Now for the good news: your state's number of vehicle thefts fell by 21% from 2023 to 2024. Thefts are declining, but you still need to make smart money moves if you own a car, like paying attention to protect it, especially if you own one of the models on this list.
A little precaution could save you a lot of money and stress if you own one of the following cars.

Ford F-250 Series

Stolen: 477
Ford routinely sells more than 700,000 F-Series trucks per year. With so many of them on the road, quite a few will get targeted by thieves. To some extent, it's a numbers game. Upper trim levels can also cost more than $70,000, so they probably fetch a high price on the black market.
In Florida, 477 F-250 trucks were stolen in 2024, making it the tenth-most stolen vehicle of the year.

Stolen: 505
The Ford F-150 can cost significantly more than the F-250. A 2023 F-150 loaded with all the options can sell for nearly $116,000. Any thieves who know how to spot valuable vehicles would love to boost one.
In Florida, they managed to steal 505 F-150s in 2024, putting the truck slightly ahead of the F-250.
Honda CR-V

Stolen: 506
With 506 thefts in 2024, the Honda CR-V is the third-most stolen vehicle in Florida. Some owners say CR-Vs get targeted because it's relatively easy to reprogram keyless entry and ignition fobs.
If you own a CR-V, consider signing up for HondaLink Remote, which gives you geofence alerts and a stolen vehicle locator.

Honda Civic

Stolen: 554
The Honda Civic is a popular vehicle known for its reliability and affordable price. Plus, they retain their value better than many vehicles. Kelley Blue Book estimates that the 2024 Honda Civic has only lost $2,893 of its retail value. That's quite tempting for thieves who want to make a quick buck selling them and their parts on the black market.
In 2024, thieves stole 554 Honda Civics in Florida.
Toyota Camry
/images/2025/08/09/toyota_camry_hev.jpg)
Stolen: 561
Florida car thieves successfully nabbed 561 Toyota Camrys in 2024, making it the fifth-most stolen vehicle in the state.
To a significant extent, the high number of thefts is a result of the car's popularity. Even during the economic uncertainty of 2020, Toyota sold 294,348 Camrys. In most years, the company sells more than 300,000.
The Camry also tends to hold its resale value well, making it enticing to thieves.
Toyota Corolla
/images/2025/04/09/toyota_corolla_xse_display.jpg)
Stolen: 602
Toyota sold about 232,900 Corollas in 2024. Again, a high number of these cars on the street almost ensures that a lot of them will get stolen. In Florida, 602 Toyota Corollas were stolen in 2024, so maybe owners in the state got off easy.
Still, it's a smart idea to take security precautions, especially since car thieves love vehicles they can strip for replacement parts used by black-market repair shops.
Nissan Altima
/images/2025/02/10/nissan-altima-display-at-dealership.jpg)
Stolen: 672
The Nissan Altima isn't the most-stolen vehicle in any state. That's good, but it's still a popular target. In Florida, 672 of them were stolen in 2024, putting it in the top half of this list.
It seems that some criminals target the Altima because they've learned how to reprogram key fobs. That basically means a tech-savvy thief could have the keys to your car. Nissan recommends keeping key fobs in secure places to prevent criminals from copying them.
Honda Accord
/images/2025/04/09/honda_accord_in_city.jpg)
Stolen: 845
The Honda Accord is the most-stolen vehicle in four states. In Florida, 845 of them were stolen in 2024.
Some experts say that Accords are popular targets because many Honda models have interchangeable parts. Swiping an Accord, therefore, is lucrative to anyone with connections to an underground repair shop.
Hyundai Sonata
/images/2025/07/01/hyundai_sonata_display_at_a_dealership.jpg)
Stolen: 1,067
Hyundai thefts soared during 2020 as thieves learned how to take advantage of their security vulnerabilities. Hyundai has since upgraded its security technology and contacted owners to help them make their vehicles more secure.
Despite these efforts, the Hyundai Sonata remained a popular target in 2024, when thieves stole 1,067 of them in Florida. It seems like old habits really do die hard.

Hyundai Elantra

Stolen: 1,074
We've reached the most-stolen vehicle in Florida. Perhaps not surprisingly, it's another Hyundai that remains a popular target for thieves. In 2024, they managed to swipe 1,074 Elantras from Florida streets.
This isn't just a Florida problem, though. The Elantra is also the number-one stolen vehicle in 20 other states. Yikes! If you own one, take every precaution you can.
Bottom line
/images/2025/08/09/thief_trying_to_break_into_car.jpg)
Ideally, you can protect your car by parking it in a secure garage, and you could even save money on car insurance by doing it. If that isn't possible, choose a brightly lit location that gets plenty of foot traffic. Thieves don't want to get caught, so light and crowds make them wary.
