Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) traded at 262.65 in Monday afternoon trading, +12.65, or +5.06%, from its previous close of $250.00. Shareholders assessing their portfolio's financial fitness welcomed the sharp uptick. The move put AMZN near its session high as analysts and traders focused on Amazon Web Services, artificial intelligence demand, and the next earnings report.

Stock reclaims ground

Shares opened at $254.02 and touched that same level for the day's low. The stock later reached $263.44, leaving it within a dollar of the high in afternoon trading.

The rebound followed a Friday close at $250.00, when no company-specific trigger was reported. Recent selling was tied to a broader Wall Street pullback led by big technology shares and chipmakers.

Analyst call lifts sentiment

Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Nowak maintained an Overweight rating and raised Amazon's price target to $350.00 from $335.00. The call named Amazon a top pick and pointed to roughly 40% implied upside from Friday's $250.00 close.

Nowak argued that Wall Street is underestimating the operating runway for AWS. He projected Amazon's cloud revenue growth will accelerate to 47% in 2027 as enterprise adoption of Bedrock broadens.

AWS remains the focus

Amazon Web Services is the main business line behind the latest optimism. AWS is Amazon's cloud business, and it remains central to the company's artificial intelligence push.

The prior quarter remains part of the backdrop for Monday's move. Amazon's revenue grew 19.6% year over year to $200.6 billion, while AWS grew 37% and topped expectations for 31% growth.

Earnings date approaches

Amazon is scheduled to report third-quarter 2026 results on October 29. That gives the market a near-term checkpoint for cloud growth, retail margins, and the scale of spending tied to AI infrastructure.

The upcoming report matters because Amazon guided to third-quarter net sales of $197 billion to $202 billion after its second-quarter earnings release. Traders are watching whether stronger AWS demand offsets caution around spending.

AI deal talk adds another layer

Recent reports said Amazon is in talks to acquire AI startup Decart for about $7 billion, though no agreement has been confirmed. The talks reinforce the market's focus on how far Amazon could go to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure position.

That question matters because AI investments can support future growth while raising near-term cash needs. Investors are watching whether major AI spending can translate into durable revenue and efficiency gains.

Broader tech tone improves

The advance also came as large technology stocks rebounded from the prior week's declines. Recent market commentary tied the move to renewed demand for mega-cap technology shares before a busy earnings stretch.

Amazon's move was also notable because market commentary said the stock had only four moves greater than 5% over the last year. That makes Monday's +5.06% gain a larger-than-usual swing for the shares.

Bottom line

Amazon's Monday rally reflects a mix of analyst support, AWS optimism, AI deal speculation, and positioning before earnings. Moves like these often catch the attention of investors ready to start investing in mega-cap names ahead of a major catalyst. The numbers Wall Street is focused on next are AWS growth, retail profitability, capital spending, and whether AI demand is turning into durable revenue at Amazon's largest growth engine.
