Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) was trading near $644.02 in Wednesday afternoon trading, down $5.40, or 0.83%, from its previous close of $649.42. Shareholders doing better financially on the AI-chip trade still sit on sharp year-to-date gains despite the modest pullback. The stock cooled after a record run, with analyst target hikes and a Nov. 3 earnings date keeping the AI chip story in focus.

Trading range stayed wide

AMD opened at $634.78 and traded as low as $633.16 before reaching an intraday high of $648.48. The $15.32 intraday spread showed a wide trading band as shares moved back above the opening price.

The stock spent the afternoon recovering from its low rather than extending the opening weakness, leaving Wednesday's action as a pullback within a volatile session.

Record run paused

The latest pullback follows a Tuesday rally that pushed AMD to an all-time peak of $649.88, according to Schaeffer's Investment Research. The move came as Citigroup raised its price target.

Wednesday's reversal puts the session in the context of a stock that had already absorbed a sharp AI-linked move and had recently broken above the $600 level.

Target hikes lifted attention

Citigroup raised its AMD price target to $800 from $575 and kept a Buy rating on the shares. The firm said AMD should be a primary beneficiary of a "CPU renaissance," citing Meta Muse and a higher estimate for the central processing unit market. Mizuho raised its target to $705 from $580 and kept an Outperform rating, citing agentic AI tailwinds tied to Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots.

AI customer angle

Citigroup analyst Atif Malik also pointed to Meta Platforms as one of AMD's largest server customers, according to Yahoo Finance. The focus is inference-related computing demand tied to AI services, memory usage, and networking capacity as personal AI agents run more tasks in the background.

Inference is the process of running an AI model after it has been trained.

Earnings date set

AMD said on Oct. 6 that it will report fiscal third-quarter 2026 results after the market closes on Nov. 3. Management is scheduled to discuss the results at 5 p.m. ET, or 2 p.m. PT.

The announcement listed the reporting date, conference-call details, and two December investor events, rather than new revenue guidance. That leaves the Nov. 3 report as the next company-level checkpoint for updated financial results.

Estimates set the bar

Consensus estimates cited by Zacks call for AMD to report earnings of $1.90 per share for the quarter. The same estimates call for revenue of $13.06 billion, up 41.3% from the year-earlier quarter.

For the full year, those estimates project earnings of $7.48 per share and revenue of $50.5 billion. That puts the focus on whether AI demand is flowing through the income statement.

Coverage remains bullish

Among 48 analysts in coverage cited by Schaeffer's, 40 carried a Buy or better rating and eight had a Hold rating. The 12-month consensus price target in that same coverage was $620.89.

That consensus target sits below AMD's current trading price, even after this week's target increases, showing how quickly the share move has outpaced some published targets.

Bottom line

AMD is down modestly today, but the bigger story remains the sharp AI-driven rerating of the stock. The chipmaker has become a common entry point for readers who want to start investing in AI infrastructure beyond Nvidia. Analyst target hikes have kept attention on server demand, Meta-related signals, and the role of agentic AI in future chip spending.

Market watchers are focused on the Nov. 3 earnings report for evidence on revenue growth, margins, and supply execution after AMD set the date for its fiscal third-quarter results.
