Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) traded near $609.42 in Tuesday afternoon trading, up $1.55, or 0.26%, from its previous close of $607.87. For investors tracking their portfolio's financial fitness, the stock opened at $613.51 and has moved between $607.70 and $624.13 as AI-chip enthusiasm, AMD's planned $8.2 billion all-stock World Labs acquisition, and valuation questions kept the chipmaker in the spotlight.

Price action

AMD is holding a modest gain after an intraday push above $624.00 faded. The current $609.42 price leaves shares just $1.55 above the previous close.

AI demand is driving attention

AMD remains tied to the broader AI trade as investors focus on rising demand for CPUs and GPUs from agentic AI workloads. Agentic AI refers to software that can plan and carry out tasks with less step-by-step human input. Market attention has centered on whether wider use of those tools can lift demand for processors, graphics chips, and cloud computing capacity.

Meta added to the theme

Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) reinforced the theme with the launch of Muse, its personal AI agent platform. Jim Cramer said Monday that growing adoption of AI agents could create another demand driver for AMD because agentic applications require more central processing power to coordinate tasks and run AI workloads. He also said AMD's products are more competitive than some investors recognize, while still viewing NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) as the leading AI-chip supplier.

Benzinga also reported that AMD has secured major GPU commitments from AI spenders, including Meta and OpenAI, with chip deals that included potential equity arrangements.

World Labs expands strategy

AMD has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire World Labs, an AI model and research lab led by Fei-Fei Li, in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $8.2 billion. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

The deal adds spatial-intelligence models, robotic learning and simulation technology, and research talent to AMD's hardware, software, and systems strategy. After the transaction closes, World Labs co-founder and CEO Fei-Fei Li will join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist.

Customers are testing workloads

The OpenFold3 result with MindWalk and Vultr places AMD hardware and software in a production life sciences workflow. The project reported antibody-antigen inference that was five times faster than MindWalk's prior setup. Inference is the stage when an AI model produces an answer after training.

Cash supports flexibility

AMD held $5.09 billion in cash and cash equivalents and $8.03 billion in short-term investments as of June 27, 2026. That liquidity position gives the company financial flexibility as it pursues acquisitions and invests in AI hardware and software. The number also matters because investors are weighing deal activity against heavy spending across the chip industry.

Valuation questions remain

Some recent valuation commentary argues that AMD's rally now requires fast data center earnings growth. Simply Wall St's narrative model projects $141.1 billion of revenue and $38.9 billion of earnings by 2029, while a more cautious geopolitical case puts 2029 revenue near $95.5 billion and earnings around $23.8 billion. The gap shows why export rules, margin pressure, and the pace of AI-infrastructure rollouts remain central to the debate.

Bottom line

AMD is still higher on Tuesday, but the move is smaller than the intraday range suggests. The market is weighing agentic AI demand, the World Labs agreement, customer workload tests, cash levels, and forecasts that depend heavily on data center execution. Anyone planning to start investing in AMD at these levels needs to weigh all of those moving parts carefully. The next focus is whether AMD can turn AI enthusiasm into revenue and earnings without margin pressure.
