The membership-only chain recently announced that it would be expanding outside of its existing East Coast footprint, with eight new warehouses opening across five states.

The new locations will bring wallet-friendly groceries and household essentials, cheap(er) gas, and other membership perks to communities that have never had a BJ's, while also expanding the retailer's presence in states that have been lucky enough to have at least one existing location.

1. Alabama

Foley, Alabama: 2601 S McKenzie St., Suite 116

BJ's will be opening its second Alabama location in Foley sometime during the Fall of 2026 at 2601 S McKenzie St., Suite 116.

Located near the Tanger Outlets, the warehouse is expected to include a gas station and is estimated to employ between 100 and 150 people.

Executives say the store will be more than just a place to stock up on necessities. After its doors open later this year, the new BJ's will partner with a local food bank, donating excess produce, meat, and dairy products for community members in need.

2. Florida

BJ's will be opening three new locations in Florida over the next six months.

Ocala is expected to get theirs first sometime during the Fall of 2026, followed by Lecanto and Port St. Lucie in the Winter of 2026.

The new stores are an addition to BJ's already substantial Florida presence (there are currently 46 BJ's in the state), as the retailer works to make access easier for both new and existing members.

3. Indiana

Fall 2026 will see the arrival of a new BJ's in Portage, Indiana. The new location will be the third in the state, and comes as part of the retailer's larger push to establish itself in new markets.

Indiana has a plethora of Costcos and Sam's Clubs, giving BJ's some stiff competition in the area. However, the 100 to 150 jobs the new location is expected to provide will likely do something to help win over shoppers.

4. Kentucky

BJ's second Kentucky location will be opening in Frankfort during the Fall of 2026.

This opening is one of the retailer's most significant debuts scheduled for this year, as it allows the company to test its membership model in a different part of one of its newest states.

Locals can already sign up for memberships, and the retailer is likely using that demand to determine how successful it could be in the previously untested market.

5. Texas

Texas will be getting two new BJ's Wholesale Clubs over the next year: one in Mesquite during the Fall of 2026, and a second in Tyler during the Spring of 2027.

The retailer made its debut in the state earlier this year, with four clubs opening in the Dallas-Fort Worth area thus far.

BJ's has pointed to the positive response from Texas shoppers as its primary reason for continuing to expand in the state.

These eight openings planned for late 2026 and early 2027 are a part of the wholesale retailer's larger plan.

With 267 stores and 205 gas stations located across 22 states, the chain already has a sizeable footprint, but Bill Werner, executive vice president of strategy and development, says it aims to open 25-30 new locations every two years.

"We are committed to growing our footprint in both new and existing markets to bring the value of a BJ's Wholesale Club to even more members," he said in a statement accompanying the announcement. "Coming off the strong results of our 2025 openings, the team is excited to execute on our 2026 class, deliver value and take care of the families who depend on us in these communities."

These expansion goals come at a time when shoppers are feeling particularly cash-strapped.
