Buc-ee's Is Expanding Into 12 New States (Is Yours One?)

Buc-ee's is thinking big, and we're not just talking about the size of the bathrooms. The travel center chain currently operates roughly 55 locations across 12 states, but that cadre is about to get larger. Buc-ee's is planning permanent homes in nearly 20 states as it expands in 2026 and beyond.

For road trip aficionados, that translates into more places to fuel up, chow down, and, yes, probably buy Buc-ee's merch. And with more stops along major highways, you may find that Buc-ee's helps you save money on travel.

Where has Buc-ee's opened already this year?

Buc-ee's has been busy in 2026. The San Marcos, Texas, location went live August 12, reportedly the third Buc-ee's to open its doors this calendar year.

Ohio welcomed its first Buc-ee's in April, while Arizona got the chain's westernmost stop in June. Arkansas joined the party August 17, when the state's first location opened in Benton.

Buc-ee's plans for the Sunshine State

A new Port Charlotte location is the big Florida headline in 2026, with Buc-ee's planning a travel center on 38 acres.

A St. Lucie County project is still moving through the site-plan approval process, but construction hasn't started yet, making its original 2027 opening unlikely. Elsewhere, Buc-ee's in Tallahassee is expected in 2027, while Ocala is now looking toward 2029.

What's next for Buc-ee's in Georgia?

Buc-ee's currently has three outlets in Georgia, in Adairsville, Brunswick, and Fort Valley.

The fourth location is forecast to open in Monroe County in Forsyth, 20 miles outside of Macon. Construction began in April, and reports indicate it's on track to turn on the lights by mid-2027. Folks driving between Macon and Atlanta are the target clientele.

Construction began in October of 2025 on the site that will host the first Buc-ee's in The Sunflower State. Current projections say it will be ready by October of 2027, with a total price tag of $95 million.

Once in action, reports brag that the 74,000-square-foot Buc-ee's will be one of the largest gas stations on Earth (though many Buc-ee's are built at that size).

On the Tennessee and Kentucky line

Tennessee's Buc-ee's number two is expected in Murfreesboro, Tennessee this fall, which local officials welcome with open arms. Number three is equally anticipated in Gallaway, and is slated for a May 2027 debut.

Just across the border, work is underway on a Buc-ee's in Oak Grove, Kentucky, though multiple delays mean fans may have to wait until 2029.

The race is on in Louisiana

East of Shreveport just off I-20 is Ruston, Louisiana, where a Buc-ee's has been under construction for nearly a year. Reports expect the outlet to go live in April 2027.

Head south to Lafayette and you'll find the second Buc-ee's in the works in the state, just off I-10. It hopes to open its doors in July 2027, ahead of schedule. Whoever gets there first will be Louisiana's debut Buc-ee's.

Progress in the Carolinas

In May of 2026, officials joined Buc-ee's reps to break ground on the state's first Beaver Nugget purveyor in North Carolina. The location at the busy I-40/I-85 interchange is slated to open for business around Thanksgiving of 2027.

In South Carolina, the Hardeeville Buc-ee's won't be ready until 2030, but the land is already in development. It will be the second in the state.

Texas is getting yet another Buc-ee's

It makes sense that Texas is Buc-ee's HQ, given the adage about size the state is famous for. But the path to the Buc-ee's in Boerne has been fraught, as delays have caused snags for over three years running.

However, this new outlet aims to be open by 2027, to the delight of aficionados and perhaps the chagrin of opponents.

Utah has plans for a Buc-ee's

While it hasn't been a straight line from idea to brick and mortar, Utah is on track to get its very first Buc-ee's. The City of Springville made their intentions known back in September 2025, but observers have noted development has been slow.

Officials hope to see its Beaver Nugget dreams manifest by the spring of 2028.

Delays have slowed Buc-ee's development in Virginia

The intersection of Austin Ridge Drive and Courthouse Road off I-95 is officially approved for a Buc-ee's in Northern Virginia. Development has divided residents, though it appears supporters will be victorious eventually.

The would-be second location slated for New Kent County hopes to come alive in 2031 after similar delays.

Brisket is on the way in Wisconsin

Officials have reached a final agreement in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, which will eventually host the first Buc-ee's in Wisconsin, the northernmost in the country.

Under the terms of the agreement, Wisconsin's premier Buc-ee's is set to open no later than August 1, 2028, but time will tell.

Where else is Buc-ee's in the works?

Before Greenwood, Indiana can start building the state's first Buc-ee's, a re-zoning effort has to succeed. Traffic is also a concern for residents who prefer the quiet.

Next door in Ohio, fans hope the state's second Buc-ee's will manifest in Mansfield City, though it has received similar criticism from some detractors. And in Gretna, Nebraska, the narrative is similar, but progress seems to be prevailing.

Wherever the next beaver pops up, few would argue that it's not worth investigating the hype at least once. Thanks to the clean bathrooms alone, the growing Buc-ee's map could make it easier to start traveling more.
