Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) traded near $675.91 in Wednesday afternoon trading, a +$5.67 move, or +0.85%, from its $670.24 previous close. Shareholders checking whether they're doing better financially after this year's AI-driven rally will note the intraday gain caps a steady climb through the quarter. The stock is in focus as Meta pushes deeper into AI products and plans to use a next-generation processor in its data centers. The day's news centers on the company's effort to pair consumer AI products with custom infrastructure.

Shares edge higher

The stock opened at $676.04 and held above Tuesday's close through the early afternoon. Its session high was $685.31, while its session low was $673.28. The stock stayed closer to the low than the high in afternoon action, even as it remained in positive territory.

Arke chip plan

Meta confirmed on Sept. 15 that it plans to deploy its MTIA 450 AI processor, code-named Arke, into data centers in the first half of 2027. The chip is part of Meta's own AI processor program for data center work. Yee Jiun Song, Meta's vice president of engineering, said the deployment could help curb rising compute costs and improve operational efficiency. Compute costs are the expenses tied to running the chips and systems that power AI tools.

Muse draws attention

Meta also remains in focus after launching Muse, a new AI assistant that puts a more consumer-visible product around the company's AI investment. Positive analyst coverage around Muse was cited as a factor behind Meta's Monday advance, with coverage pointing to the product's longer-term monetization potential while noting that consumer understanding and paid adoption could take time to develop.

Analysts stay positive

The Muse launch drew upbeat coverage from firms already positive on Meta. Mizuho Securities was cited with a buy rating and a $750 price target on the stock in recent coverage tied to Muse. KeyBanc Capital Markets maintained an overweight rating with a $780 price target, with the firm arguing that the market was still underestimating Meta's AI positioning and product cycle. Those ratings are analyst labels for stocks expected to beat a benchmark or peer group.

Safety remains visible

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Tuesday that the company delayed Muse for several months to focus on safety and security. The delay puts governance alongside growth as a major part of the Muse story. Zuckerberg also favored independent evaluators and advisers over a coordinated industry slowdown, saying Meta acted on its own rather than asking other AI labs to pause first.

AI revenue debate

Market attention is also on whether Meta can turn AI spending into revenue. Market strategist Dan Niles told CNBC that Meta's commercial API and the performance of its Muse Spark 1.3 model have strengthened the case for clearer AI revenue paths. An API lets outside software connect with a company's technology. Niles also pointed to Meta settling lawsuits involving state attorneys general and addressing historical concerns over heavy capital spending as overhangs that have faded.

Bottom line

Meta's Wednesday gain is modest, but the stock's move is tied to a broader AI narrative. Readers looking to start investing around this AI cycle should weigh execution risk against the headline momentum. Market watchers are focused on whether Muse can become a meaningful product cycle and whether Arke can help manage the cost of running larger AI systems. The next key test is how Meta turns those AI investments into durable revenue and efficiency gains.
