Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) traded at $66.28 in Friday afternoon trading, down $0.77, or 1.15%, from its previous close of $67.05. The stock opened at $66.77 and has stayed between $66.18 and $67.83.

For investors keeping tabs on their financial fitness, the decline follows third-quarter results that beat profit estimates but put pressure on the stock because Netflix's fourth-quarter revenue outlook came in below Wall Street consensus.

Today's trading range

Shares opened at $66.77, below the previous close of $67.05, then dipped as low as $66.18. The day's high is $67.83, placing the current $66.28 price near the lower end of Friday's range. That pattern kept the stock under pressure after the earnings-related headline risk.

Q3 profit beat

Netflix reported third-quarter earnings per share of $0.87, above the $0.82 analysts expected. Revenue was $12.874 billion, roughly in line with analyst estimates. That split left the market focused less on the past quarter and more on what management expects next.

Q4 outlook missed

The company's fourth-quarter revenue outlook is $13.44 billion, below the $13.51 billion consensus analyst estimate. Guidance is a company's own forecast for a coming period. For Netflix, that forecast has become a central number because it points to slower expected top-line growth after the third-quarter report.

Ad forecast lowered

Netflix also lowered its full-year 2026 advertising revenue forecast to about $2.7 billion from roughly $3 billion. The cut was tied to slower rollout of some ad product capabilities and partner integrations, and it hit an ad business investors have been watching as a newer growth engine.

Advertising revenue matters because Netflix has been using lower-priced plans with ads to reach viewers who might not choose the more expensive ad-free service.

Engagement remains in focus

Investor attention has also stayed on engagement after Netflix acknowledged concern about view-hours growth and analysts weighed whether slower engagement could affect revenue growth.

Engagement measures how much time people spend watching and how likely they are to keep the service. In the U.S., co-CEO Peters said during the earnings call that engagement is "solid," but added that the company can do better.

Leadership and job cuts

Netflix made several operating changes before the earnings reaction. Former Disney executive Peter Rice was named the company's next chief content officer, replacing Bela Bajaria, who had worked at Netflix for nearly a decade and had served as chief content officer since 2023.

Netflix also said it would cut 6% of its workforce, or about 1,000 employees, marking its largest reduction of employees since 2022.

Bottom line

Netflix is trading lower at $66.28 after opening below its previous close and testing an intraday low of $66.18. The immediate debate is not whether the third quarter cleared the earnings bar, but whether the softer fourth-quarter revenue forecast and reduced ad outlook point to a more durable growth slowdown.

Prospective shareholders weighing whether to start investing in Netflix face a market that is still digesting the guidance revision. Market watchers are focused on ad product rollout timing, engagement trends, and how the new content leadership shapes programming decisions into the next reporting cycle.
