SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ: SOFI) traded near $14.79 in Tuesday afternoon trading, up $0.49, or 3.43%, from its previous close of $14.30. The intraday gain is one more sign the online lender is doing better financially than it was a year ago at this point. The move put the stock back in focus ahead of the company's expected Oct. 27 earnings report, with Wall Street looking for another quarter of profit and revenue growth.

Intraday rebound
SOFI opened at $14.23 and traded between $14.18 and $15.00 during the session. The stock was holding above the previous close by early afternoon, reversing part of the pressure that marked recent trading.
The move put the stock near the upper end of its daily range after opening slightly below the prior close. That kept short-term traders focused on whether the rebound could hold through the afternoon.
Earnings date looms
SoFi's next earnings report is expected on Oct. 27, 2026. Consensus estimates call for earnings of $0.17 per share and revenue of $1.26 billion.
Those figures would represent EPS growth of 54.55% from the prior-year quarter and revenue growth of 32.36%. For the full year, consensus estimates call for earnings of $0.60 per share and revenue of $4.87 billion.
The estimates set a clear bar for the report after the stock's recent pullback. The market's focus is on whether growth can keep pace with expectations.
Rate pressure remains
SoFi was caught in weakness across financial stocks as stubborn inflation revived concerns that interest rates could stay higher, putting pressure on lenders and other rate-sensitive finance names.
Higher rates can affect lenders through funding costs, loan demand, and credit quality. For SoFi, lending accounts for a significant share of revenue, so rate expectations remain central to the market's view of the stock.
Analysts are split
The analyst setup remains mixed heading into earnings. MarketBeat reported a consensus rating of Hold and a consensus target price of $22.20, underscoring the divide around the stock.
Recent calls also show that split. Benchmark upgraded SoFi to strong-buy, while Keefe, Bruyette & Woods reissued an underperform rating on the shares.
Valuation lens shifted
Valuation is also part of the debate after the recent slide. A Simply Wall St analysis framed SoFi as potentially 26% overvalued under its excess returns model, while a bullish community narrative saw the stock as 34% undervalued.
An excess returns model compares expected returns on shareholder capital with a company's cost of equity. The split shows how much SoFi's case depends on assumptions about funding costs, credit quality, and platform profitability.
Insider sales noted
Recent filings also showed insider stock sales by senior executives. CTO Jeremy Rishel sold 18,624 shares on Sept. 21 at an average price of $17.50, for a total value of $325,920.
EVP Kelli Keough sold 11,286 shares on Aug. 20 at an average price of $18.00, for a total value of $203,148. Both trades were reported as pre-arranged Rule 10b5-1 transactions.
A Rule 10b5-1 plan lets company insiders schedule trades in advance under securities rules. Such plans are commonly used to reduce questions about whether trades were based on nonpublic information.
Bottom line
SOFI's Tuesday gain put the stock back near the top of its daily range, but the larger debate remains tied to earnings, rates, valuation, and analyst confidence. For retail users looking to start investing through fintech platforms, SoFi's upcoming print will offer a read on whether its brokerage arm is scaling in line with the lending business. Market watchers will look at the Oct. 27 results for signs that revenue growth, lending performance, and platform profitability can offset pressure from the rate backdrop.
