Discount Retailer Ross Opens 21 New Locations Across 17 States

Retailer Ross Dress for Less recently announced it opened new stores for shoppers in June and July as part of its overall expansion plans to attract new customers.

Ross Stores announced it opened 21 new stores across 17 states in June and July. In addition to Ross locations, the company also opened three new locations for dd’s Discounts stores, a brand that’s also owned by Ross Stores.

Earlier this year, Ross Stores said it planned to open 90 new stores during the 2024 fiscal year, including 18 new stores during the first quarter of the year.

The new locations in February and March included 11 Ross Dress for Less stores and dd’s Discounts stores.

Ross launched dd’s Discounts in 2004 to attract customers who wanted more moderately priced options.

The brand currently has more than 350 stores in 22 states for customers to check out if they want to find name brands at affordable prices.

Bed Bath & Beyond shuttered all of its stores last year after filing for bankruptcy and liquidating its assets. But the move also meant it left big empty retail spaces.

Ross Dress for Less took advantage of these vacant spaces and is opening some of its new locations in these shutdown stores.

Residents of places like Fargo, North Dakota, and Bethlehem Township, Pennsylvania, for example, should look out for new Ross stores in their vacated Bed Bath & Beyond spaces.

Ross Dress for Less is headquartered in California. The state has the highest number of Ross locations.

However, the company’s recent moves have allowed it to make inroads in the Midwest, particularly with new locations in Minnesota, North Dakota, Indiana, and Michigan.

Ross Dress for Less started in the San Francisco area in 1982 with six stores. It has expanded over the years to now have almost 1,800 locations across the U.S.

The company announced it made more than $20 billion in revenue in 2023.
