Why waste money on overpriced snacks? While you don't "need" these sweet, salty, and savory treats, they're certainly nice to have around. And that's why I choose Aldi over other retailers.

If you're looking for the best Aldi hacks, you've come to the right place — and you won't have to try every cookie, chip, and dip to find the best one. Someone has to do the work, and you won't have to twist my arm to try the store's most popular snacking selections.

Continue reading to see which affordable options nearly claimed the top spot and which snack I ultimately crowned the winner.

Runner-up: Simply Nature Almond Butter Filled Pretzels

almond butter filled pretzels

Price: $5.29

You'll get a sweet surprise inside these pretzels. The salty snack features a rich, creamy almond butter center that makes this pick seriously addictive. And apparently, I'm not the only one who can't get enough of the Simply Nature selection.

Redditor ConstructionOther686 admitted, "I ate the bag in two days."

Runner-up: Benton's Lemon Shortbread Cookies

lemon shortbread cookies

Price: $1.99

Maybe it's the subtle sweetness, or maybe it's the tangy tart citrus zip that makes these lemon shortbread cookies so appealing. Whatever it is, I'm in.

This light, crunchy snack is 10/10 for flavor and texture. While I'll gladly eat these straight from the pack, crush a few and sprinkle them over vanilla ice cream for a true treat.

Runner-up: Simply Nature Dark Chocolate Covered Freeze-Dried Strawberries

chocolate covered freeze dried strawberries

Price: $4.09

I'm always on the lookout for a travel-ready snack, and this is one of Aldi's best. If you're a fan of chocolate-covered strawberries, this is an easy alternative that doesn't require refrigeration.

This budget-friendly buy is also an affordable Tru Fru dupe. Compare $4.09 for four ounces at Aldi to $5.39 for a 4.2-ounce bag from the brand name at Target.

Runner-up: Clancy's Kansas City BBQ Popcorn

pack of bbq popcorn

Price: $1.55

Popcorn is my passion, and that means I'm always up for trying the newest flavors. This Kansas City BBQ version doesn't disappoint. Not only is the runner-up a perfect sweet-salty-savory combo, but it's also priced right.

At $1.55 for six ounces, this snack won't break the bank. Target sells a slightly larger 6.5-ounce bag of Angie's Boom Chicka Pop Barbecue for $3.69.

Quick tips: How to save on your grocery bill

Grocery shopping doesn't have to break the bank when you use the right strategies. Here are three quick tips for reducing food expenses:

  • Buy store brands instead of name brands whenever possible.
  • Always make sure to compare unit prices, not just sticker prices.
  • Join your store's loyalty program so you don’t miss out on member discounts.

Even though something like choosing coupons in your grocery store app can feel like an annoying task, the savings can really add up.

Runner-up: Simply Nature Cauliflower Sea Salt Crackers

cauliflower sea salt crackers

Price: $3.19

No gluten? No problem. These crackers are made from cauliflower. But don't let that throw you. The runner-up is crispy, crunchy, and packed with a hint of sea saltiness.

With only 100 calories and 2.5 grams of fat in each 44-piece serving, this snack is a healthier alternative to greasy chips.

Runner-up: Benton's Sweet Strawberry Jaffa Cakes

sweet strawberry jaffa cakes

Price: $2.75

Is it a cookie or is it a cake? The traditional European treat has a light, airy sponge base, but (like a cookie) you won't need a fork to indulge in this decadent dessert.

And that means you can pack these sweet strawberry-filled, dark chocolate-covered snacks in your travel tote or purse.

Runner-up: Park Street Deli Charcuterie Snack Tray

charcuterie snack tray

Price: $2.49

Pass on pricey charcuterie trays that can feed a whole party. This mini is the perfect size for one. Uncured hard salami and provolone cheese pack a protein punch, and the luxe dark chocolate-covered almonds add just the right amount of sweetness to this tiny tray.

Runner-up: Park Street Deli Red Pepper Feta Dip

red pepper feta dip

Price: $3.29

It's thick, it's creamy, and I think this runner-up is absolutely dreamy. The decadent dip has a tangy taste, courtesy of a Feta cheese and yogurt combo.

Of course, this isn't a solo snack. Pair the red pepper-packed spread with pita bread, mini carrots, Simply Nature Organic Multigrain Tortilla Chips ($2.45), or Savoritz Vegetable Entertainment Crackers ($1.89).

Shopping pro tip: This month's best deals

methaphum/Adobe person holding a wallet

August is here, and with it comes the final stretch of summer. It’s a great time to soak up the season and scoop up hot deals before they fade. Look for savings on:

  • Travel and getaway must-haves
  • Back-to-school basics
  • Clearance swimwear and warm-weather styles
  • For grocery savings, grab peak-season produce, like tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, and berries

As retailers shift their focus to fall, August is the last chance to snag summer essentials at unbeatable prices. Shop smart now before the season (and the savings) slip away.

Runner-up: Southern Grove Cotton Candy Trail Mix

cotton candy trail mix

Price: $4.89

Satisfy your sweet tooth with this cotton candy trail mix. I'm a fan of anything that tastes like fair food, and this snack is a carnival-like confection.

Vanilla creme-flavored almonds, cotton candy clusters, lemon-flavored clusters, yogurt-flavored covered raisins, shortbread chips, and strawberry-flavored drops place this runner-up near the top of my list.

Runner-up: Zero Strawberry Cream Bars

strawberry cream bars

Price: $4.49

This guilt-free snack has everything I look for in a treat — without the added sugar. With only 60 calories per bar, this milk and cream strawberry-flavored sweet is almost the perfect frozen pop. And bonus, it also contains probiotics.

Runner-up: Clancy's Original Sea Salt Vegetable Chips

sea salt vegetable chips

Price: $2.99

Not a fan of plain chips? Me either. That's why I enjoy this veggie variety. Taro, sweet potatoes, parsnips, and beets give this pick a flavor you'll savor.

You won't have to pay brand-name prices for this six-ounce Aldi private-label snack, either. I made the switch from Terra's Original Vegetable Chips ($3.99 for five ounces at Whole Foods Market) when I found this lower-priced option.

Winner: Season's Choice Bananas Covered In Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter

banana covered chocolate and peanut butter

Price: $2.99

And the winner is…Season's Choice Bananas Covered In Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter. Frozen chocolate-covered fruit is one of my favorite snacks. But this treat takes it to the next level. A sweet and salty layer of creamy peanut butter gives the 100-calorie find a satisfying, sumptuous flavor.

I'll snack on these straight from the box all day long. But if you want to get creative and make an over-the-top sundae "split," swap plain bananas for this delectable dessert.

Bottom line

wolterke/Adobe An Aldi grocery store

There you have it. The competition was fierce, but after a tasty race, the frozen chocolate and peanut butter-covered bananas came out on top. Not only is my top pick absolutely delicious, it's also a bargain that fits perfectly into my shopping budget.

Of course, snacks aren't the only groceries that always seem to land on my list. Aldi's everyday low prices mean you can save money shopping for frozen meals, fresh produce, bakery-quality bread, and even home decor items.
