Olive Oil

Olive oil is a great way to incorporate good fats into your diet, and it's a kitchen staple that many people love. Use it to make delicious pasta, salad dressings, dips, and more.

At Sam's Club, you can score a three-liter bottle for just $18.98, or 19 cents per ounce. You can also grab high-quality extra virgin olive oil as inexpensively as 34 cents per ounce. You won't find it for less than 42.7 cents per ounce at Walmart.

The Member's Mark brand behind this bottle sources its extra virgin oils from Italy, Greece, Tunisia, and Spain, though everything is bottled in Italy under that country's regulatory standards.

Because it's extra virgin, meaning the oil comes from a first cold pressing, the bottle carries a maximum acidity of 0.5%, which is well under the industry cutoff for the extra virgin label.

Rotisserie chicken

At Sam's Club, rotisserie chicken is a fan favorite, and it's easy to see why. Perfectly seasoned, this chicken is made fresh in-club every day and serves up 19 grams of protein per serving.

A whole chicken costs just $4.98, is a great size for a small family, and comes ready to eat making it ideal for a quick weeknight dinner.

The chicken comes from birds raised with no antibiotics ever, and each one is marinated, seasoned, and roasted to a cooked weight of roughly 3 to 4 pounds.

It's packaged in a resealable, food-safe container, so leftovers can go straight back in the fridge without needing to transfer them to a separate dish.

Canned beans

While purchasing 10 or more pounds of beans in bulk can feel like a big commitment for a small family, this retailer sells canned black beans and pinto beans in boxes of six, making stocking up super convenient.

Each box is just $6.64, and each can reasonably priced around $1.

Canned beans like these are already cooked, so they just need to be heated through, and rinsing them before use cuts down on the added sodium in the canning liquid.

They're also naturally high in plant-based protein and fiber, making them a budget-friendly way to round out soups, chilis, salads, and burritos without much prep.

Toilet paper

Can you ever really have too much toilet paper? Stock up for the house on the cheap — and re-stock less often — with a giant pack of rolls at Sam's Club. Most places will only sell one-ply paper at their prices, but you can procure high-quality options for an amazing price at the warehouse.

Nab 45 rolls of two-ply paper for just $24.98, or less than a penny per square foot. The exact same box at Walmart is $40.93.

Each roll in this Member's Mark set has 235 sheets, and the 45 rolls combined add up to 1,254 square feet of tissue.

It's also septic safe, which is worth knowing for households not connected to a municipal sewer system.

Quinoa

Quinoa contains all nine essential amino acids, making it an ancient grain that's incredibly good for you. It's ready in 15 minutes and can be added as a side, thrown into a wrap or salad, or cooked as a main dish.

The warehouse sells a four-pound bag for just under $10, or a super affordable 16 cents per ounce. Walmart's least expensive option is 21.7 cents per ounce.

Quinoa is naturally gluten free, vegan, and non-GMO, which makes it a versatile pantry staple for households with different dietary needs.

A 1/4-cup dry serving is standard, and a 4-pound bag works out to roughly 42 servings, so it can stretch across many meals before running out.

Laundry detergent

No matter the size of your family, stocking up on laundry detergent can really help you in a dirty clothing disaster. This is especially true if you have pets, who can wreak havoc on many items in their lifetimes.

Sam's Club sells a 166-load liquid All Sensitive Fresh Liquid Laundry Detergent, for just $20.98, or 10 cents per ounce. It's currently $46.99 at Walmart.

This formula is 100% dye-free with a hypoallergenic scent, and it's Safer Choice certified by the EPA.

It works in all HE washing machines and in cold water, and it's made without phosphates, using biodegradable surfactants that are safe for septic systems.

Protein bars

It's important to incorporate a good amount of protein in your body, especially as you age. These Ready bars have 15 grams of protein each. They are a fantastic snack and a great solution to meet your nutrition requirements.

At Sam's Club, a 20 pack is currently on sale for $16.98, or 86 cents each, and regularly priced at $17.98. In comparison, Walmart sells the same pack for $30.

The 20-count box splits evenly into 10 Chocolate Peanut Butter and 10 Dark Chocolate Sea Salt bars, and Ready markets them as certified gluten free and non-GMO with no artificial sweeteners.

Reviewers note the bars have a soft texture rather than the drier, chalkier feel of some other protein bars.

Chicken pot pie

Nothing says comfort food like a chicken pot pie. But, really, who has the time to make it from scratch often at all? Enter: Marie Callender's eight-pack of chicken pot pies. Store them in the freezer and make a few quick meals out of them when you're stuck in a rut.

At $12.98 for an eight pack, $1.62 per serving is a cost efficient dinner for any family.

Each 10-ounce pie has 610 calories and 17 grams of protein, with a crust described as made from scratch and a filling of white meat chicken, carrots, celery, and peas.

They can be microwaved in about 5 to 6.5 minutes for a quick meal, or baked in a 400-degree oven for about 50 minutes for a flakier crust.

Lasagna

If you want a quick, delicious, decadent pasta, then Sam's Club is a great way to buy this classic dish. Pick up a high-quality pack of two 20-ounce lasagnas for just $14.98 — $7.49 each — or 37 cents per ounce. Loaded with 24 grams of protein per serving, this dish is easy to grab and go for a couple of sturdy meals.

There are frozen lasagna options that cost less, however they don't have the hint of fresh basil or low calorie count like what the warehouse offers.

This is Counter's Lazy Lasagna, made with elbow pasta, seasoned ground beef, mozzarella, and ricotta cheeses, topped with a tomato basil marinara sauce.

Each serving runs about 250 calories, which is part of why the brand markets it as a macro-balanced dish rather than a traditional heavy lasagna.

Facial tissue

Weather changes, viruses, and emotional events all call for us to have tissue on hand. Help to protect your sensitive skin with a brand that is hypoallergenic and free from toxins, like the Member's Mark three-ply option.

The big box retailer sells a 12 pack of boxes of these facial tissues for just $14.98, or one penny per sheet. In contrast, Kleenex brand three-ply paper is regularly priced elsewhere at about six cents per sheet.

Each of the 12 boxes holds 80 tissues, for 960 tissues total, and the tissues are unscented and dermatologically tested for sensitive skin.

Because they're 3-ply, some shoppers also use them for gentle makeup removal rather than only for colds and allergies.

String Cheese

Getting your recommended amount of calcium can also be difficult. Snacking on sticks of cheese can help. With only one carb and 80 calories, you can enjoy a bulk pack of Frigo Cheese Heads string cheese for just $10.24, or 21 cents per individually wrapped snack.

Other retailers carry the same cheese sticks for upwards of 33 cents each.

The 48-count bag is made from low-moisture, part-skim mozzarella, with each 1-ounce stick providing 6 grams of protein and 15% of the daily recommended calcium.

Each stick is individually wrapped, which makes it easy to toss a few into lunch boxes or a bag for snacking away from home.

Bottom line

While it can seem complicated to purchase in bulk for a smaller family, it can be totally worth it for convenience and to help you save money on essentials. With over 600 locations in the United States alone, Sam's Club is a reliably cost-efficient option you can find almost anywhere.

Just be sure to only buy in bulk things that you'll need and use to make sure they're worth it for your small family.

Sam's Club also backs many of its purchases with a Member Satisfaction Guarantee, and the Scan & Go app feature lets shoppers scan items as they go and skip the checkout line entirely, which can make even a smaller haul feel faster and more convenient.
