Why State Farm is sending this money
State Farm is a mutual insurance company, meaning it is owned by its policyholders rather than outside shareholders. When the company performs better than expected financially, profits can flow back to customers rather than to investors.
State Farm credited "financial strength and stronger-than-expected underwriting performance in 2025" for making the dividend possible. Specifically:
- Auto repair costs declined in 2025
- Collision frequency was lower than projected
The company also lowered auto rates in 40 states by an average of 10% in 2025, saving customers $4.6 billion in premiums
The dividend is separate from and on top of those rate reductions. Jon Farney, president and CEO of State Farm Mutual, said the payment reflects the company's "customer-first focus."
Who qualifies
According to the official State Farm FAQ page at sfdividend.com, you qualify if:
- You had an eligible State Farm Mutual private passenger auto insurance policy at any point between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025
- Your calculated dividend amount is $10 or more (the minimum threshold for processing)
You do not need to currently be a State Farm customer to receive the payment. If you switched to a different insurer in 2026, you still qualify as long as your policy was active at some point in 2025.
Who does not qualify:
- Homeowners, renters, life, motorcycle, or boat policyholders (the dividend applies only to State Farm Mutual personal auto policies)
- Commercial auto policyholders
- Customers whose calculated dividend falls below $10
How much you will get
The average payout is approximately $100 per vehicle, according to State Farm. Your actual amount depends on:
- The percentage assigned to your state (ranges from 4% to 10% of 2025 premiums)
- How much you paid in premiums during 2025
Higher-premium states and higher-premium policyholders receive larger payments. For example, Oklahoma customers receive 10% of their 2025 premiums, averaging about $112 per vehicle.
A few important notes:
- If you have more than one qualifying vehicle on a State Farm Mutual policy, you will receive a separate payment for each one
- The dividend cannot be converted to a policy credit or applied to future premiums
- Your future rates will not be affected by receiving this dividend

How you will receive your payment
State Farm is using a third-party payment administrator called Verita to process payments. How you receive your money depends on whether State Farm has your email address on file.

- You will receive an email from donotreply@e.sfdividend.com
- The email contains a unique ID and PIN
- Use those credentials to log in to the payment portal at sfdividend.com
- Choose how you want to receive your money:

How to check your status or claim your payment
Payments started going out on July 31, 2026, and are being distributed in waves sorted by state. As of late August:
- Over 7.2 million checks had already been mailed
- Another 3.8 million were set to go out within days
- Millions more are still on the way
If you believe you qualify but have not received anything yet, here is how to check:
- Visit: sfdividend.com
- Call: 1-888-808-9532 (State Farm Dividend Customer Contact Center)
- Contact your State Farm agent directly
State Farm says the full distribution will take several months to complete because of the 49 million vehicles involved.
Important: State Farm will never ask you to pay a fee to receive your dividend payment. If you receive any communication asking for a payment or personal financial information beyond what is in the official portal, treat it as a scam.
Watch out for scams
Any time a large payment program like this goes public, scammers follow. Here is how to protect yourself:
- Legitimate emails will come only from donotreply@e.sfdividend.com
- The only official portal is sfdividend.com
- State Farm will not call you asking for bank account numbers, Social Security numbers, or fees
- If you are unsure whether a communication is legitimate, call 1-888-808-9532 directly or visit a State Farm agent
The bottom line
If you had a State Farm Mutual personal auto policy at any point in 2025, your payment is coming. The average is about $100 per vehicle, with higher amounts for customers in higher-rate states or with larger 2025 premiums. You do not need to apply or file anything. Just watch for an email from donotreply@e.sfdividend.com or a check in the mail, and visit sfdividend.com if you want to check your status.
Once you have received your dividend, it is worth taking a moment to compare auto insurance rates more broadly. This payment reflects one year of better-than-expected results at State Farm, but rates across the industry have fluctuated significantly in recent years. Taking a few minutes to compare auto insurance rates with other carriers could save you more than $100 per year on an ongoing basis, not just as a one-time windfall.
