Party City to Close All 700 Stores (But Will There Be Good Liquidation Sales?)

After nearly 40 years, Party City will close its doors permanently. The New Jersey-based company filed for bankruptcy in January 2023, and at that point, it was $1.7 billion in debt.

It was able to shave nearly $1 billion off of that total, exiting bankruptcy in September 2023. Unfortunately, Party City could not overcome its remaining $800 million in debt and will close all its locations this February.

As sad as this may be for this storied retailer and its employees, spectacular closing sales are a silver lining for people looking to save money while shopping for party supplies.

Like many North American retailers, Party City has struggled with stiff competition from e-commerce sites, big-box retailers, and seasonal pop-up stores.

Party City had more than 850 stores in 45 states and Puerto Rico before closing more than 80 locations over the past two years. Its remaining 700-plus stores will close between February 1 and 28, 2025.

Below are the 17 states that have already experienced closures and where else shoppers can expect to get liquidation deals.

California has the most Party City stores in North America, with over 80 locations throughout the Golden State. These locations are concentrated in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

However, Party City also has some stores outside of these areas, such as a single location in Redding, San Luis Obispo, Hanford, and Bakersfield.

Shut down California locations:

• Downey: 7171 Firestone Blvd.
• Lodi: Southwest Plaza, 2350 W. Kettleman Lane
• Marina: The Dunes on Monterey Bay, 125 General Stillwell Drive
• Palmdale: Amargosa Commons, 39451 10th St. W.

There are 12 Party City locations throughout Connecticut. With these locations evenly spread throughout the state, consumers will have ample opportunity to save big on party goods over the next few weeks.

Locations: East Hartford, Enfield, Fairfield, Hamden, Manchester, Newington, Norwalk, Orange, Simsbury, Waterbury, and Waterford.

Georgia is home to 23 Party City locations. With 16 stores within driving distance of Atlanta, residents near the city can cash in on Party City’s closing sales.

Shut down Georgia locations:

• Rome: 2702 Martha Berry Road
• Cartersville: Cartersville Crossing, 451 E. Main St.

We previously reported that Party City had closed its location at the Crossroads Commons Shopping Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

Fortunately for Hawkeye State shoppers, Party City’s stores in Ankeny, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Marion, Sioux City, and West Des Moines remain open.

Shut down Iowa locations:

• Waterloo: Crossroads Commons Shopping Center, 1415 Flammang Drive

Illinois has nearly two dozen Party City locations in the Chicago metropolitan area. The Chicago area stores will close by February 28, 2025.

There are also locations in Champaign, Springfield, Bloomington, and Peoria. However, its Bradley location has already shut its doors.

Shut down Illinois location:

• Bradley: Bradley Commons, 2060 N. State Route 50

Party City has 15 locations that remain open throughout the Hoosier state. The highest concentration of Party City stores is located in the Indianapolis area, which is the heart of Indiana.

Shut down Indiana location:

• Noblesville: Stony Creek Marketplace, 17160 Mercantile Blvd.

Unfortunately for partiers in the famed Mardi Gras state, Party City has already closed its location at the Stirling Slidell Shopping Center. Fortunately, its Mantorville outlet, just a 25-minute drive from Slidell, remains open.

Two locations in the New Orleans area, Metairie and Harvey, are currently offering excellent closing sales. The retailer’s locations in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, and Shreveport are also still open.

Shut down Louisiana location:

• Slidell: Stirling Slidell Shopping Center, 61119 Airport Road

The company previously shut down four of its locations in the Great Lakes State. Party City will still have 20 locations featuring its going-out-of-business sale for the next few weeks.

Most of these stores are concentrated around Detroit, with a handful of locations near the state’s eastern Grand Rapids region.

Shut down Michigan locations:

• Holland: Felch Street Shopping Center, 3050 Beeline Road, Suite 20
• Fort Gratiot: 4047 24th Ave.
• Benton Harbor: Fairplain Plaza, 1040 Fairplain Drive
• Jackson: Jackson Crossing, 1510 N. West Ave.

There are still 13 locations open throughout Missouri. Several of those are in the St. Louis area.

Missourians hoping to score serious discounts can also visit Party City’s locations in Springfield and Cape Girardeau.

Shut down Missouri locations:

• St. Joseph: East Hills Shopping Center, 3702 Frederick Ave., Suite L12
• Belton: Belton Gateway, 541 E. Markey Parkway
• Walker: Alpine Summit, 3175 Alpine Ave. NW

The Garden State is home to more than two dozen Party City locations. While the West Paterson store at the Lenox Plaza Shopping Center has already closed, the Wayne and Clifton locations are only six miles away.

Shut down New Jersey location:

• West Paterson: Mcbride Lenox Plaza Shopping Center, 1756 Route 46

The party goods company has closed seven of its locations in the Empire State. At one point, it had a whopping 49 stores open in New York. Now, there are about 13 locations remaining.

Most are located in and around New York City, but there are also locations in Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo.

Shut down New York locations:

• Bronx: Throggs Neck Shopping Center, 815 Hutchinson River Parkway
• Bronx: Broadway Plaza, 171 W. 230th St.
• Buffalo: Boulevard Consumer Square, 4090 Maple Road
• Irondequoit: Culver Ridge Plaza, 2255 E. Ridge Road
• Manhattan: 223 W. 34th St.
• Manhattan: 301 W. 125th St.
• Staten Island: The Boulevard, 2636 Hylan Blvd.

Party City has already closed its Lancaster store at the River Valley Plaza. However, 20 locations remain in operation throughout the Buckeye state.

Shut down Ohio location:

• Lancaster: River Valley Plaza, 1320 River Valley Blvd.

While Party City has already closed its stores in Midwest City and Lawton, its Edmond, Norman, Oklahoma City, Owasso, and Tulsa locations will remain operational until next month.

Shut down Oklahoma locations:

• Lawton: Cache Road Square, 3801 NW Cache Road, 19B
• Midwest City: Sooner Rose, 5825 SE 15th St.

Beaver State residents have only a handful of Party City locations. The state’s Corvallis store shut down last year.

Shut down Oregon locations:

• Corvallis: Circle 9 Shopping Center, 944 NW Circle Blvd.

While the retailer has already closed its locations in Corpus Christi, Garland, and San Angelo, numerous stores in the Dallas, Austin, and Houston areas will remain open until February.

Shut down Texas locations:

• Corpus Christi: Five Points Shopping Center, 4101 Highway 77, Suite K2
• Garland: 3065 N. President George Bush Turnpike
• San Angelo: Sunset Shopping Center, 4141 Sunset Drive

As of this writing, only one Party City location remains in West Virginia. This Clarksburg New Pointe Plaza store will be open for a few more weeks. The Mountain State previously had stores at the Raleigh Mall in Beckley and the Martinsburg Mall.

Shut down West Virginia locations:

• Beckley: Raleigh Mall, 4283 Robert C. Byrd Drive
• Martinsburg: Martinsburg Mall, 800 Foxcroft Ave.

Most of the seven active stores are in the Louisville region. Until February, the Bowling Green, Lexington, and Florence areas will also have open stores.

Shut down Kentucky location:

• Owensboro: 3430 Villa Point Drive

There are only a few weeks left for shoppers to cash in on the killer savings of Party City’s 60% off closing sale. After February 28, 2025, most of those 700-plus stores will be gone. However, some franchise locations will remain open if their owners can find new vendors to supply them with party goods.

Easy and convenient online shopping has made it hard for retailers like Party City to stay open. Meanwhile, one of the best shopping hacks is taking advantage of the store’s deep discounts during its liquidation weeks.
