Some are worth very little, so it pays to know what to look for.

If you are planning to clear out your home storage or swing by a local garage or estate sale this summer, keep an eye out for these 11 nostalgic '80s and '90s gems that are seriously valuable today.

Copper Age comic books

Estimated market value: $12,500

In the comic book world, the 1980s are known as the Copper Age. According to Certified Guaranty Company (CGC), the most valuable comic from the decade is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1, which once sold for a record $245,000. Another version of the rare 1984 comic is currently listed on eBay for $12,500.

Other valuable Copper Age comics to look out for include Albedo #2, Bone #1, and Transformers #1, according to CGC.

Early American Girl dolls

Estimated market value: $1,500

In the '90s, the company that created American Girl dolls was sold to Mattel, and the beloved dolls have since been mass-produced. However, if you have one of the originals from before this sale, you could be looking at a payday of well over $1,000.

An original Samantha doll, for example, is currently listed for $1,500. The original dolls worth cash have white bodies and will be signed with the creator's name, Pleasant Rowland.

1984 original Apple Mac computer

Estimated market value: $1,500

The first personal Mac computer was officially released in 1984, and though it looks nothing like the sleek laptops and iMacs we are used to today, collectors are often willing to pay serious cash for this piece of tech history. If you happened to hang onto your original Macintosh 128k or end up stumbling across a working one at an estate or garage sale, it could be worth $1,500 or more on a resale site like eBay.

'90s Hot Wheels models

Estimated market value: $1,225

Though most Hot Wheels cars from decades past are probably not worth much more than you originally paid for them, there are some treasures you can parlay into small fortunes on the resale market.

One example is the 1995 Treasure Hunt '67 Camaro, which is attracting plenty of attention with a $1,225 asking price on eBay.

Transformers G1 figures

Estimated market value: $599.99

If you happened to hang onto one of the first-generation Transformers from 1984, you could be sitting on a small fortune. Early versions of Optimus Prime and Megatron have been known to sell for hundreds, and sometimes beyond.

A G1 Optimus Prime in its original box is currently attracting many eyes on eBay with a $600 asking price.

Pokémon cards

Estimated market value: $395.99

How much Pokémon cards from the '90s are worth depends on many factors, and most aren't worth a whole lot. Collectors have been known to shell out tens of thousands of dollars for rarities, but these are not easy to come by.

The market value listed above is for a recent sale of a holographic Charizard from 1995 in excellent condition.

Magic: The Gathering sets

Estimated market value: $400

Magic: The Gathering sets from the '90s can be quite valuable as well, but their worth typically lies in rarity and whether sellers can put together a complete set. Cards from a set known as "Power Nine" have reportedly sold for upwards of $27,000. Recently, a complete "Visions" set from 1997 sold for $400.

Teddy Ruxpin

Estimated market value: $250

The cuddly 1985 bear that could tell you stories thanks to a cassette player hidden in his fur is an '80s classic. The talking teddies were massively popular in the middle of the decade, and working or refurbished versions have been known to sell for hundreds. One is currently listed online for $250.

Star Wars original action figures

Estimated market value: $199

Though the first original Kenner Star Wars figurines were released in the late '70s after the first film came out, the versions of these popular action figures released in the '80s can be quite valuable as well. They tend to be worth more if they are in their original box or with a set of fan-favorite characters.

One Yoda figure with his original box from 1982, for example, recently sold on eBay for nearly $200.

Nintendo Game & Watch

Estimated market value: $190

Before the modern dawn of on-the-go gaming, Nintendo fans could play their favorites on a tiny Game & Watch screen. Versions from the early '80s often sell for at least $100 to collectors, and one "Fire" game from 1981 in its original box is attracting plenty of attention on eBay with a $190 asking price.

Original Cabbage Patch doll

Estimated market value: $189

Cabbage Patch dolls were later rereleased, but the originals by toymaker Coleco are considered extremely valuable for certain collectors. Rare editions and those in their original boxes sometimes sell for a few hundred dollars. Recently, a 1983 "Camala Daisy" red-headed doll sold for $189 on eBay.

Bottom line

You don't have to be a serious collector, past or current, to get involved in the resale market and put extra cash in your pocket or start a casual side hustle. Many of the items featured here were common enough that you may have them packed away somewhere in your home. Of course, condition matters, and resellers often make more if they get their products professionally graded by a service like CGC or WATA.
