Finding a job after age 50 can feel frustrating, especially if you're worried about age bias during the hiring process.
In a decade when you expected that you would be on track for retirement, suddenly you need to put yourself "out there" again.
Officially, employers can't openly discriminate based on age. Some state that outright in their workplace literature. And a subset of these employers even go one step further by earning Certified Age-Friendly Employer (CAFE) status.

What is CAFE?
The designation, awarded through the Age-Friendly Institute, recognizes age-friendly employers for fair recruitment and workplace practices.
Recipients are evaluated based on hiring practices, employee retention, training, workplace culture, benefits, and other policies that support workers age 50 and older.
Rather than simply making claims about inclusion, these organizations undergo an outside assessment designed to measure how well they support older employees.
If you're looking for a workplace that values wisdom and skills, these Certified Age-Friendly Employers are actively hiring across a multitude of industries.
Parkview Health
Health care organizations often value experienced employees, and Parkview Health has reinforced that commitment by earning Certified Age-Friendly Employer status.
The nonprofit health system serves communities across Indiana and Ohio and regularly hires registered nurses, medical assistants, patient care technicians, therapists, administrative professionals, and support staff.
With hundreds of open positions across multiple locations, Parkview offers opportunities for both clinical and nonclinical workers. This includes many remote positions, such as virtual nurses, procurement agents, and more.
Parker Health Group
Parker Health Group has spent more than a century serving older adults, making its Age-Friendly certification a natural fit.
Based in New Jersey, the nonprofit regularly recruits registered nurses, nursing assistants, recreation assistants, food service workers, social workers, care managers, and other health care professionals.
Employees often cite the organization's mission-driven work and strong sense of purpose as reasons they enjoy working there.
While no remote roles are currently listed, the employer does hire for many part-time and per diem positions. Some dieticians, for example, are required to work only two shifts per month, which could be an excellent fit for older workers doing a phased retirement or who want to re-enter the workforce part-time.
Humana
Humana is one of the nation's largest health insurance companies and continues to hire for positions ranging from customer service and care management to technology, finance, analytics, and project management.
The company's Certified Age-Friendly Employer designation reflects its commitment to supporting workers throughout their careers.
Flexible work arrangements, competitive retirement benefits, and opportunities in both corporate and health care roles may appeal to experienced professionals seeking a long-term employer.
Many Humana job roles are remote. On Indeed, the employer is hiring for several work-from-home positions, including housing specialists, analysts, auditors, and care coordinators.
American Heart Association
If you're interested in mission-driven work, the American Heart Association offers opportunities well beyond health care.
Current openings include fundraising, communications, education, program management, corporate partnerships, finance, and leadership roles across the country.
Many positions are field-based, hybrid, or remote, giving experienced professionals additional flexibility while supporting an organization dedicated to improving public health.
nVent
Manufacturing isn't always the first industry people think of when changing careers after 50, but nVent demonstrates that experienced workers remain in demand.
The electrical products manufacturer hires engineers, production supervisors, customer service representatives, marketing professionals, communications specialists, recruiters, and skilled manufacturing employees.
While the company does not have many remote roles, inVent offers professional development opportunities and a comprehensive benefits package, with coverage that may be especially appealing to older workers who would otherwise struggle to afford health insurance.
AstraZeneca
Global pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca continues to recruit professionals across a broad range of disciplines, from pharmaceutical sales and marketing to finance, quality assurance, research, technology, and operations.
Many openings are geared toward experienced professionals with specialized expertise, making the company an attractive option for workers looking to leverage decades of industry knowledge.
The company's global career page currently lists 53 remote job openings, including several U.S.-based roles.
Vericel Corporation
Biotechnology company Vericel develops advanced therapies used in sports medicine and severe burn care, creating opportunities for professionals with backgrounds in manufacturing, laboratory science, engineering, quality control, marketing, information technology, and clinical operations.
The company's Certified Age-Friendly Employer status may appeal to experienced workers interested in joining a growing life sciences organization where technical knowledge and professional experience are highly valued.
Additionally, FlexJobs states that Vercel staffs remote-hybrid roles.
Boston Red Sox
Not every Certified Age-Friendly Employer is found in health care or manufacturing. The Boston Red Sox organization also earned the designation, offering senior citizens the chance to make a different kind of debut in the majors.
Depending on the season, the organization hires tour guides, community relations staff, ticket operations employees, grounds crew members, security personnel, data scientists, and baseball analytics professionals.
While some roles are seasonal or part-time, they may appeal to workers looking for flexible employment in a fun environment.
Earn as much as $1K doing simple online tasks

Bottom line
A Certified Age-Friendly Employer designation doesn't guarantee that every position will be the right fit, or that an older employee is an automatic shoo-in over younger workers, but it does signal that an organization has made a measurable commitment to hiring and supporting older workers, including age-friendly work accommodations, quality health coverage, and an employer-sponsored retirement plan.
Because hiring needs change frequently, it's worth checking the Age Friendly Employer Directory. New employers continue to earn certification each year, giving workers over 50 an expanding list of organizations that recognize the value of wisdom and experience.
