While some people see their 70s as a time to hang up their work boots and take life a little easier, that doesn't mean we all have to. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of workers aged 65 or older has grown by 117% over the past 20 years. This dramatic rise highlights that more seniors are choosing (or needing) to stay in the workforce longer than ever before.

Costco

Chances are, you've not only heard of Costco but also have one near you that you visit regularly. With a flexible work schedule and a variety of roles for older people, including in cashier and sampler roles, it's an ideal place to work if you're over 71.

While it doesn't have a specific AARP pledge, it does have a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, outlined in a pledge that covers various protected characteristics such as age.

CVS Health

CVS has a "Talent is Ageless" program, designed specifically to recruit and retrain employees who are 50 and older, with many stores having cashiers and shift supervisors well over 60 and beyond.

Goodwill has an employment program specifically designed to help people aged 55 and older secure paid roles. One example is its senior job placement program, which helps seniors find work, develop new skills, and build their financial security.

Shelly Labinger, who initially found work through the program and is now a career coach for other seniors, explained, "Many seniors still feel they have something to offer, and we're here to help bring out their confidence and show them the way."

Home Depot

Home Depot has a reputation for hiring people of all ages, a reputation supported by their involvement with the AARP Employment Pledge Program. Employees of any age can benefit from competitive wages, bonus opportunities, a 401(k), and a variety of work/life benefits.

Lowe's

Lowe's is known to hire people of all ages, including those over 71. An equal opportunity employer, it doesn't discriminate based on age and offers career opportunities to those of all ages and levels. They also offer their part-time workers life insurance and good retirement packages.

There are many examples of Lowe's employees who have worked in the company well into old age, including someone who has worked there for fifty years, as well as a 93-year-old in 2017.

MGM Resorts

Many national park jobs are ideal for those 71 and over, as a way to stay fit, healthy, and have an additional purpose in life. Some of the most popular senior roles include working in their stores and restaurants.

Kay Ellen, talent acquisition manager for Delaware North National Park, says, "Nearly a third of Delaware North's team members at the Yellowstone General Stores are snowbirds, active people who are either retired or semi-retired."

Employers are increasingly looking to recruit older, reliable team members, and the number of over-70s in the workforce is increasing rapidly.
