12 Dying Careers AI Is Expected to Wipe Out in the Next 10 Years

The jobs disappearing fastest aren't in warehouses, they're in offices.

To build real wealth in the 2020s, you need an honest picture of where the labor market is actually going. By 2030, several common jobs won't require a human to fill them, because the AI tools replacing them are already deployed today.

What makes this wave different is which jobs are disappearing first: white-collar entry-level positions, not factory floors, because that's where AI has matured fastest.

Here are 12 careers that are already shrinking, and the specific AI tools doing the work.

Customer service representatives

AI chatbots and voice agents now resolve between 55% and 70% of tier-1 support tickets without any human involvement, according to Lorikeet's 2026 analysis of AI-native customer service platforms.

Gartner projects conversational AI will cut contact center labor costs by $80 billion in 2026. The BLS already projects a 5% employment decline through 2034. This is not just coming, it is already underway.

Data entry clerks

AI-powered optical character recognition, document parsing tools, and robotic process automation now capture, reconcile, and categorize data faster and with fewer errors than manual entry.

This category has appeared on BLS fastest-declining occupations lists consistently, and the tools replacing it are only improving.

Bookkeeping and accounting clerks

Tools like QuickBooks, Xero, and a growing wave of AI-native accounting platforms now handle invoice matching, expense categorization, bank reconciliation, and routine tax prep with minimal human involvement. What used to take a clerk several hours of careful manual work gets done in seconds, with fewer errors and a full audit trail.

The BLS projects a 6% decline through 2034, and the rate of adoption is accelerating as these platforms become cheaper and easier to deploy for businesses of every size.

Paralegals and legal assistants

AI contract review tools like Harvey, Clio, and LexisNexis AI can now draft, review, and flag issues in standard contracts in minutes. What once took a junior associate hours of billable work takes AI seconds.

Law firms are adopting these tools rapidly, and entry-level legal research positions are the first to see reduced hiring.

Translators and interpreters

DeepL, Google Translate, and large language models have made professional-grade translation available at near-zero marginal cost. Demand for human translators has held up only in high-stakes legal, literary, and diplomatic contexts.

For routine business documents, marketing copy, and technical manuals, AI output is now good enough that companies are cutting junior translation positions first.

Junior graphic designers

Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, and similar tools generate logos, layouts, social media graphics, and marketing imagery in seconds.

The erosion is happening at the entry level, where companies once hired junior designers to produce high-volume, low-complexity visual work. That pipeline is shrinking as AI handles the volume work and senior designers manage output quality.

Telemarketers

AI-powered voice agents now conduct outbound sales calls with natural-sounding voices, real-time objection handling, and personalized scripting at a fraction of the cost of a human caller.

The BLS already projects a 22% decline through 2034. Do-not-call compliance requirements and generational shifts away from phone-based sales have accelerated the structural decline.

Radiologists and medical imaging reviewers

AI diagnostic tools now identify certain cancers, fractures, and abnormalities with accuracy matching human radiologists.

The FDA has cleared more than 1,550 AI-based medical imaging devices as of 2026. The implication is not that radiologists disappear, but that AI-assisted volume means fewer radiologists are needed per imaging center.

Truck and delivery drivers

Autonomous trucking fleets are running limited commercial routes today. Aurora operates driverless freight routes in Texas; Amazon and FedEx are piloting last-mile delivery automation in select markets.

Full commercial deployment is still years out at scale, but the trend line is clear and the investment is enormous.

Earn as much as $1K doing simple online tasks

A company called Freecash has compiled all sorts of quick cash tasks from about a dozen advertisers and market research companies thirsty for more data. Freecash has paid out over $13 million to users since 2019, and has over 50,000 five-star reviews on Trustpilot.

Financial analysts (entry-level)

AI tools now generate earnings summaries, sector reports, and valuation models faster than junior analysts can. Bloomberg's AI tools, Morgan Stanley's AI assistant, and a range of fintech startups have automated the research pipeline that once served as the entry path to a finance career.

Senior judgment and client relationships remain human, but the entry-level pipeline is contracting.

Travel agents

This one has been shrinking for two decades through online booking platforms, and AI has accelerated the final phase.

AI travel planning tools now build itineraries, compare prices across platforms, handle rebooking, and manage complex multi-leg international trips.

Medical transcriptionists

AI speech recognition trained specifically on medical terminology now transcribes physician notes, surgical dictations, and patient records with accuracy that has made dedicated transcriptionists largely redundant.

The BLS projects a 5% decline through 2034, citing this AI mechanism directly.

The two things people get wrong about AI job displacement

The first misconception is that automation mainly threatens factory workers. AI excels at pattern recognition, document processing, and structured decision-making, which describes white-collar entry-level work far more accurately than physical trades.

An electrician navigates unfamiliar structures, makes real-time judgments, and uses fine motor skills in varied conditions. AI cannot do that. It can draft a contract in seconds.

The second misconception is that these jobs disappear through mass layoffs. They mostly shrink through attrition. A company that loses three customer service reps to turnover hires one, because AI covers the volume. Job postings quietly disappear. Entry-level hiring freezes. The role just stops refilling.

Bottom line

When AI shows up at work labeled as an "assistant" or "copilot," that is almost always the first sign the role is being restructured around it. The question worth asking is not whether AI can do any of your job. It's whether AI can do enough of your job that a company could hire fewer people for it.

For the 12 roles listed here, the answer is increasingly yes, and planning a career transition before that becomes obvious to everyone else is one of the most practical ways to grow your wealth over the next decade.
