Job hunting after 50 to boost your bank account might feel like an uphill climb, but some large employers have gone on record about wanting experienced workers. They've signed AARP's employer pledge, earned an outside certification for age-friendly workplace practices, or built programs aimed at older and returning workers.
The timing makes sense. AARP notes that the U.S. labor force is aging and shrinking, and that within five to 10 years more people are to exit the workforce instead of enter it. Employers that want to keep experienced talent have a reason to court it: in a 2022 survey of more than 550 older workers, 87% said they'd be more likely to stay with an employer known to be age-friendly, according to the Age Friendly Institute.
Here are 12 recognizable employers with documented age-friendly hiring practices, what kinds of jobs they offer, and what they look for.
Humana
Humana is a Certified Age Friendly Employer and runs a dedicated Jobs After Retirement page for people returning to work, complete with an FAQ on how working might affect Social Security benefits. The health insurer has also described a Mature Worker Initiative aimed at hiring retirees who left the workforce, and an employee group called GenUs focused on age diversity, according to Humana.
Roles Humana highlights for retirees include call center representative, agent support representative, licensed sales agent, telephonic or field registered nurse, and caregiver positions for LPNs and RNs.
Humana says many of its jobs allow work from home or offer flexibility, and it offers part-time positions. How flexible the hours are depends on the role.
Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills are required, and Humana says it provides onboarding and systems training. Clinical roles require the relevant nursing license.
UnitedHealth Group
AARP calls UnitedHealth Group a longtime signer of its employer pledge and says the company relies on multigenerational teams, offering comprehensive benefits, competitive pay, and flexible work arrangements, according to AARP.
As one of the country's largest health care companies, UnitedHealth Group hires for customer service, clinical, and administrative roles. Postings on its careers site have included work-from-home customer service advocates, telephonic community health workers, and part-time remote call center nurses.
AARP lists UnitedHealth Group among pledge signers hiring for remote work. Some nursing roles have been posted as part-time.
Customer-facing experience for service roles and active licenses (RN, LPN/LVN, or CNA) for clinical ones. Experienced nurses who want to step away from bedside care may find telephonic roles a good fit.
H&R Block
H&R Block is an AARP employer pledge signer that, according to AARP, offers equitable training opportunities, flexible work, medical coverage, and retirement savings plans. Its seasonal schedule also suits retirees who want to work part of the year.
The company is hiring tax professionals (both seasoned and new) and client service professionals on a rolling basis, according to H&R Block.
H&R Block also advertises remote-friendly seasonal work.
You don't need a tax background to start. H&R Block's Income Tax Course has no tuition, though you may have to buy course materials. It runs 40 hours at the federal level, with longer requirements in some states (70 hours in California and 81 in Oregon).
Experienced preparers might take the Tax Knowledge Assessment instead. Completing either doesn't guarantee a job offer.
Macy's
Macy's is an AARP employer pledge signer. AARP says the retailer has created training pathways across generations and offers benefits including tuition reimbursement; medical, dental, and vision coverage; and retirement savings options.
For the 2026 holiday season, Macy's is hiring for part-time store roles plus full- and part-time roles at its distribution and fulfillment centers, according to Macy's. The company has a final in-person hiring event scheduled for Nov. 19, and applicants could also submit a recorded interview.
Store roles are part-time, and AARP lists Macy's among pledge signers hiring for remote work. Macy's says seasonal roles could lead to longer-term jobs.
Customer service and retail experience help, but seasonal store roles are generally entry-level. Macy's says benefits for eligible seasonal workers include medical, dental, and vision coverage on hire, a 401(k), early access to earned wages, and an employee discount. Pay ranges are listed on every posting.
Centene
Centene Corporation, a large managed care company, is listed in the Certified Age Friendly Employer directory.
Centene's clinical and care management team hires for roles such as behavioral health care manager, care navigator, and care coordinator, according to its careers site. It also has a customer care team.
This is where Centene stands out. The company says a majority of its workforce works remotely and that it offers hybrid and remote options, with schedules set in coordination with your manager, according to Centene.
Requirements vary by role, so check individual postings. Care management roles may call for clinical or behavioral health credentials.

The Maine-based outdoor retailer is a Certified Age Friendly Employer, and its seasonal workforce is large. L.L. Bean hired more than 2,200 seasonal workers for its 2025 season, according to the company.
Seasonal roles include call center, fulfillment, manufacturing, and retail positions, as well as Outdoor Discovery instructors, according to L.L. Bean.

Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox are a Certified Age Friendly Employer.
Retirees worked as an usher, a Fenway ambassador, and a 50/50 raffle seller. The team also hires game-day hospitality, facilities operations, and fan engagement staff.
These are seasonal, part-time, on-site jobs at Fenway Park, which suits people who want flexible hours without a year-round commitment.
People skills and reliability. Game-day roles reward a friendly, steady presence more than a specific career background.
Bristol Myers Squibb
The pharmaceutical company earned Certified Age Friendly Employer status in the U.S. in 2025 for employees age 50 and older, according to Bristol Myers Squibb. It also has a multigenerational employee group called CLIMB.
BMS hires experienced professionals in research, clinical operations, and field medical roles. Recent postings have included clinical research associates and medical science liaisons.
BMS lists "flexible ways of working" among its U.S. benefits. Job-board copies of BMS postings describe hybrid and field-based roles. The same benefits page lists caregiver leave, elder care support, and long-term care insurance, which may appeal to workers caring for aging parents or spouses.
Scientific, clinical, and industry experience. Many roles require advanced degrees and years of relevant work.
Sanofi
Sanofi says six of its country operations, including the U.S., hold Certified Age Friendly Employer status. It also runs an employee group called Generations+ and offers flexible ways of working, according to Sanofi.
Like other drugmakers, Sanofi hires for research, medical, commercial, and corporate roles. One example: a remote U.S. medical science liaison position posted in August 2026 with a pay range of $146,250 to $211,250, according to Sanofi's job site.
Some field and medical roles are remote, as in the example above, and require specialized experience. The medical science liaison role, for instance, requires an advanced degree (such as an MD, PhD, PharmD, or NP) plus field medical or clinical experience.
Northwell Health
Northwell Health, which has more than 105,000 team members, was named an Age-Friendly Employer, according to Northwell. It has also run a returnship program for experienced professionals coming back after a caregiving gap. Northwell hires for clinical roles such as nurses and nurse assistants, as well as support roles like unit receptionists.
Northwell says part-time and per diem schedules are available for advanced practice clinicians, according to the health system. Per diem work lets experienced nurses and clinicians pick up shifts without a full-time schedule.

Because Manpower places workers with client companies, the range is broad: office, light industrial, customer service, and professional roles. Its mature worker program pairs candidates with dedicated recruiters and offers advice on rebranding your experience and building new skills.
Manpower highlights a retiree who returned to work in a flexible position. Temporary and contract placements could be a way to test a new field without a long-term commitment. Manpower says it values the dedication and strong work ethic of experienced talent.

Schneider Electric's North American operation is a Certified Age Friendly Employer. Bottom line

In 2026, AARP turned its Employer Pledge Program into the AARP Employer Alliance. Existing pledge companies with 25 or more employees were brought into the Alliance automatically. Look for the AARP Employer Alliance or Employer Pledge seal on company career pages, and search postings through AARP's job search services with Indeed.
The Age Friendly Institute, which created the Certified Age Friendly Employer program, is now part of 55/Redefined. Its directory of certified employers lists organizations by industry, from health systems and insurers to retailers and government agencies. Use it to build a target list, then apply through each employer's own careers site.
When looking to get ahead financially, look closely at its benefits pages. Flexible schedules, caregiver leave, and part-time roles with benefits are good signs that a company has planned for workers at every stage of their careers.
