Whether you're looking to switch careers or start fresh, there are plenty of high-paying opportunities that don't demand years of experience yet pay over $60 an hour. Many of these roles offer flexible schedules, remote work options, and hands-on training to help you get started quickly.

Information security analyst

Median hourly pay: $60.05

Information security analysts plan and implement security measures to protect an organization's computer networks. They most commonly work for consulting firms, computer companies, or business and financial companies.

You'll need foundational IT skills if you have little work experience. Next, complete certifications like CompTIA Security+ or take an entry-level IT role to build hands-on experience through virtual labs, and start contributing to open-source projects to showcase your abilities.

Actuary

Median hourly pay: $60.47

Have a background in business, mathematics, or statistics? Interested in pursuing a job that's expected to grow by 22% through to 2034? Then becoming an actuary may be for you.

To get into this field with little experience, take and pass preliminary actuarial exams, and become proficient in Excel and a programming language like R or Python. You can create personal projects to build a portfolio and begin freelancing. Continue networking and apply for positions at financial or insurance companies, as they employ 78% of actuaries nationwide.

Computer network architect

Median hourly pay: $62.69

While many computer network architects hold a bachelor's degree in a computer-related field, it is possible to achieve success without prior experience. Candidates with some background in IT and networking, and who are willing to put in the work, can secure an entry-level position, earn industry certifications, and gain hands-on experience to advance.

Consider a position as a network administrator or systems engineer and continue to level up via self-study and certifications.

Public relations and fundraising manager

Median hourly pay: $63.88

Are you known for your interpersonal and communication skills? Can you easily build relationships or persuade stakeholders? If the answer is yes, and you're interested in protecting an organization's image or managing donation-based campaigns, why not consider becoming a public relations and fundraising manager?

Whether you have volunteered in the past or worked as a communications specialist or account coordinator, look for organizations with strong community outreach programs, as they often provide more accessible entry points.

Sales manager

Median hourly pay: $66.38

Sales managers lead teams to ensure goals are met, planning, directing, and coordinating the delivery of products and services to customers. The job outlook for sales managers is good, with a projected 5% growth from 2024 to 2034.

So, if you have strong communication and problem-solving skills, with some managerial or sales experience, start networking. There are also plenty of online sales management courses for beginners and executives alike.

Political scientist

Median hourly pay: $67.01

If you have always been interested in politics, why not pursue a career as a political scientist? You will study the origin, development, and operation of political systems.

While most political scientists will have a degree in political science, public administration, or a related field, you can enter entry-level political science roles with little to no prior experience. The roles typically revolve around research, data collection, and analysis.

Compensation and benefits manager

Median hourly pay: $67.48

Compensation and benefits managers plan, develop, and oversee programs to pay employees. While they typically need some prior experience, there is flexibility within this role. Experience in a related finance, business, human resources, social science, or management role will often do the trick.

If you have knowledge about payroll tasks, vendor relationships, and benefits legislation, plus leadership experience, you'll be a good candidate. Land this job and you could make more than $140,000 a year.

Air traffic controller

Median hourly pay: $69.51

If you're willing to jump into a career that allows you to progress via on-the-job training, you may be interested in becoming an air traffic controller. You will coordinate aircraft movements to ensure safe separation and flight paths.

Those working in such positions often have a combination of work experience and an associate's degree. However, no prior aviation-related experience is required, as you will get extensive training from your employer.

Marketing manager

Median hourly pay: $76.76

While marketing managers come from all backgrounds, this position does not always require extensive experience. Those who find success with little experience often focus on developing key skills, taking entry-level jobs, and showcasing their capabilities through the projects they complete.

The job outlook is positive for marketing managers, with an anticipated 36,400 openings each year until 2034.

Computer manager

Median hourly pay: $82.31

While most computer managers have a background in IT, you don't need managerial experience to land a job as a computer manager. If you have experience working in an entry-level IT job, have shown a natural ability to lead team projects, and are a great leader, this may be a natural (and lucrative) transition.

If you have been considering this career shift, now is a great time, as employment for computer managers is projected to grow by 15%, representing more than 55,000 openings a year through 2034.

Bottom line

Getting a high-paying job is possible without experience as long as you're willing to put in the work. Many of these roles even allow you to work from home, giving you more flexibility to learn and grow at your own pace.

In many cases, it helps to have background knowledge, access to mentorship or a networking group, and to seek relevant certifications, all while gaining as much experience as you can.
