Nation's Restaurant News just released its list of America’s favorite chain restaurants and the winner might just surprise you. Families love chain restaurants for their reliability and reasonable prices (usually). No matter where you go, you can expect a similar menu and experience.

But an expensive option took the crown this year, which we certainly didn't expect!

How to chains were ranked

This ranking wasn’t just pulled out of thin air. Technomic Ignite Consumer is a market research firm that conducted the survey to rank chain restaurants on a number of qualities including service, ambience, food, and value. The composite scores were then used to compile a top 10 list.

And the winner is...

Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse

This steakhouse chain began in the ‘60s and received its (unusual) name in honor of its founder. What began in New Orleans as one restaurant is now a chain with over 150 locations across the globe.

Last year, Ruth's Chris was bought by Darden Restaurants for around $715 million dollars. Darden owns other popular chains like Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, Seasons 52, and Bahama Breeze.

America has expensive taste

Customers need to be willing to spend a lot to eat at this popular spot. For a family of four, you could easily spend hundreds if you buy appetizers, drinks, and sides along with your entrees.

Some representative prices from the menu:

  • Crab cake appetizer: $28
  • Caesar salad: $14
  • Ribeye steak (16 oz): $67
  • Filet (11 oz): $59
  • Side of fries: $12
  • Side of brussels sprouts: $15

If you really want to splurge, there’s also a porterhouse for $115 or a tomahawk ribeye for $148.

Bottom line

While you may need to save this place for special occasions, it might be worth it to see what all of the other customers are raving about.

Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is a popular chain for good reason. Taking a trip to this establishment means you get a lovely atmosphere and delicious food, so long as you’re willing to pay the (hefty) price. Do you think you’ll pay a visit to this winner soon?
