Restaurants are preparing to start dropping fall menus with the classic pumpkin spice latte on them any day now, but you can stretch your restaurant budget by supplementing your pumpkin spice cravings at home.

Bottom line

Some may say it's too soon for fall flavors when summer hasn't entirely ended yet, but pumpkin spice doesn't even have pumpkin in it, so is it even that seasonal?

Pumpkin pie spice is a blend of ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and sometimes allspice to create the flavor for seasoning pumpkin pies — but historically, the flavor combination was used in many different dishes in medieval times.

If you're looking to save money on groceries, it might be better to wait for the fall menus to roll out fully — but if you can't wait, there are quite a few options on the shelves already.
