Power.

Lastly, this card comes with no foreign transaction fees and Alaska’s Famous Companion Fare. On your account anniversary each year, you’ll receive a companion certificate good for a flight booked on AlaskaAir.com.

Best Bank of America credit card for no credit score

BankAmericard®️ Secured Credit Card

  • Financial tools available: Potential deposit return, access to updated FICO score, access to credit education
  • Annual fee: $0

The BankAmericard Secured credit card is best for someone looking to build — or rebuild — their credit score. To open this card, you’ll have to put down a minimum refundable security deposit that can range from $300 to $4,900. Your maximum credit limit will be determined by the deposit you provide, your income, and your ability to pay the credit line established. If you put down a deposit that exceeds the credit line Bank of America determines is appropriate for you, the difference will be returned to you.

In addition, Bank of America periodically reviews its secured accounts to see if your creditworthiness has improved and if you’re eligible to have your security deposit returned. Being able to transition to an unsecured card isn’t a guaranteed feature when you open a secured card, so you can count that as a benefit of the BankAmericard Secured credit card, as well.

How to power up your rewards with Bank of America partners

There are ways to earn further rewards with Bank of America based on other financial products you may already have or be willing to open there. The Bank of America Preferred Rewards program is free to join, and all you need to enroll is a Bank of America personal checking account and a three-month average combined balance of $20,000 or more in qualifying Bank of America banking accounts and/or Merrill investment accounts.

If you're already a Bank of America account holder, you can check if you're eligible for the Preferred Rewards program by signing into the online banking portal or mobile banking app.

There are three tiers to the Preferred Rewards program: Gold, Platinum, and Platinum Honors. The tier you’re placed in depends on the combined balances in your qualifying accounts. As your money grows or decreases, you’ll move up and down in the status levels.

As a Preferred Rewards member, you can earn perks in addition to the rewards your Bank of America credit card may already be earning you. These benefits include things like a rate booster on your savings account, a bonus on credit card rewards, fee-free ATM transactions, a discount on certain Merrill accounts, a reduction in a mortgage origination fee, auto loan interest discounts, and more.

How we chose these cards (methodology)

If you’re thinking of applying for one of these Bank of America credit cards, here are the reasons we selected each one:

First, we always look at sign-up bonuses. These bonuses can be a vital part of a credit card being the right fit for you. When a sign-up bonus is available, we look at it carefully to dissect its actual value.

Second, we look at spending categories. While earning a sign-up bonus is great, having a card that’s valuable in your billfold long term is even better. I’m always looking at products to possibly replace what I currently have for better returns on my expenses. The cards chosen above (where applicable) do have great spending categories.

Third, we look to see if there’s an introductory APR offer. This can be an important factor for someone looking to consolidate debt or prepare for a large expense, such as a home improvement project.

Lastly, we avoid cards with poor or no rewards system. There are exceptions to the rule — such as with secured cards — but generally, we like to point our readers to products that will earn them cash back or rewards points so they can make the most of their spending. Check out our list of the best cashback credit cards for more details.

Before you apply: Bank of America has a 2/3/4 rule

Similar to other banks like Chase, Bank of America has application rules to ensure consumers aren’t signing up for too many credit cards. In 2017, Bank of America established the “2/3/4” rule. The rule goes as follows:

  • You can only get approved for two new cards in a two-month period.
  • You can only get approved for three new cards in a 12-month period.
  • You can only get approved for four new cards in a 24-month period.

With this in mind, if you end up wanting to apply for a few of the cards in this article, it’s important to strategically plan out your credit card applications.

If you believe you have been denied a credit card in error, do contact the Bank of America reconsideration line directly and speak to a representative about your application.

Which Bank of America credit card is best for you?

The “perfect” card is different for everyone. Each person is in a different financial position and will have varying priorities when it comes to their spending and the kinds of rewards they’d like to earn. The nice thing is the selection of Bank of America credit cards ranges widely in features for all particular financial stepping stones in life.

Whether you’re looking to build your credit from scratch or earn valuable travel rewards to see the world, Bank of America has a credit card that can suit your financial needs. That said, if you're still shopping around and open to options from different credit card issuers, check out our picks for the best credit cards.
