Key takeaways

  • The Disney® Visa® Card has a $0 annual fee, which is a perk for any rewards credit card.
  • For new cardmembers, this card has an OK welcome offer. You could earn a $250 statement credit after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
  • This card lets you access some perks inside Disney parks, such as cardmember-only photo ops.
  • The Disney® Visa® Card offers some discounts that can help you save money on Disney purchases.

Who should get the Disney Visa Card?

Disney loyalists are the only ones who will benefit from adding the Disney Visa Card to their wallets. Most of the benefits of this card are tied exclusively to Disney parks, resorts, cruises, and stores.

The Disney Visa Card offers 10% off select merchandise and dining at Disney parks, which makes it an attractive option for individuals and families who visit Disney more than once a year. Collectors that spend considerable money on Disney and Star Wars memorabilia might also appreciate these discounts.

As a Disney Visa cardholder, you get access to special events, such as Disney and Star Wars character experiences at Disney parks. Getting your photo with Mickey and Minnie is always a highlight of a Disney family vacation, so having exclusive access to experiences like this is a plus for Disney fans.

Unfortunately, the Disney Visa’s earning rate is low, so it doesn’t make sense for everyday spending. This card earns just 1% in Disney Rewards Dollars on all purchases. Outside of the discounts and exclusive events, a co-branded Disney card might not necessarily be the best credit card for Disney. Other travel rewards and cashback credit cards may offer higher earning rates and more redemption choices, leading to bigger savings. Check out our list of the best cashback credit cards for more options.

What we don't like about this card: drawbacks

  • Complicated redemptions: Disney Rewards Dollars doesn’t offer straightforward redemptions, which can be confusing. You need at least 20 Disney Rewards in your account to redeem them. Plus, you need to order Disney Rewards redemption cards to spend your rewards, and these cards can be used only for certain Disney purchases.
  • Limited discounts: Access to exclusive discounts is nice, but if you’re looking for discounts on park admission tickets, you’re out of luck.
  • Foreign transaction fees: Disney does have theme parks and resorts outside of the U.S., but using this card for international Disney vacations could get expensive. It comes with a 3% foreign transaction fee.

Earning and redeeming Disney Rewards Dollars

Potential earnings in years one and two

Here's a look at how your rewards can add up with the Disney Visa Card. To calculate these values, we used a point valuation of $0.01.

Remember, this is an estimation. The actual value will be determined by how much you spend and in which categories you spend.

Year one earnings: $705
Year two earnings: $455

These values are based on the FinanceBuzz Credit Card Rewards Valuation Model which takes a look at points earned via spending, the welcome bonus, and the annual fee.

Best ways to earn

With the Disney Rewards Visa, all purchases, big or small, earn 1% in Disney Rewards Dollars. For example, a $100 purchase earns one Disney Rewards Dollar. Doesn’t sound like much, does it?

The fastest way to earn Disney Rewards Dollars quickly is to use the Disney Visa Card exclusively for all of your spending. However, you may also be leaving money on the table with this card, as most rewards credit cards offer a much higher earning rate.

All purchases 1%

Maximizing your redemptions

To redeem Disney Rewards Dollars, you’ll need to contact Disney and order a redemption card, which works like a gift card. You can do this online, by phone, or at a Disney property. Delivery of redemption cards usually takes two-to-three weeks, so don’t wait until right before your trip to order redemption cards.

The initial minimum redemption is 20 Disney Rewards Dollars. To earn this minimum, you’ll need to spend $2,000. After that, transfers to a new or existing redemption card can be in increments of 10 Rewards Dollars.

Disney Rewards Dollars are redeemable at select Disney locations within the U.S. You can use your rewards at Disney in many ways, including:

  • Shopping
  • Dining
  • Theme park tickets
  • Guided tours

The redemption value of Disney Rewards Dollars is the same, no matter where you choose to use your redemption card. Visit DisneyRewards.com for a complete list of redemption options.

The only redemption option outside of the realm of Disney is at AMC movie theatres. Even then, rewards are only good toward tickets for Disney, Disney-Pixar, Marvel, or Star Wars movie tickets.

If you’re only interested in this card for its other Disney perks, make sure to at least use it once, so you can earn a $250 statement credit after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

Disney Visa Card FAQs

Is the Disney Visa Card worth it?

If you’re a diehard Disney fan with plans to visit one of the parks soon, the Disney Visa Card has some value. Cardmembers get exclusive vacation financing, discounts, and cardmember character events, which enhance an already magical experience. Keep in mind that this card does fall under Chase’s 5/24 rule, so you might not be eligible for it if you’ve already exceeded the limit.

What are the benefits of the Disney Visa Card?

New cardmembers earn a $250 statement credit after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening, along with select discounts at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Store, and DisneyStore.com. With this card, you also have access to special financing: 0% intro APR on select Disney vacation packages for 6 months from the date of purchase (then 19.24% - 28.24% Variable). You can also enjoy special character experiences at Walt Disney World and Disneyland with the Disney Visa Card.

Can I use my Disney Visa Card anywhere?

Yes, the Disney Visa Card works like any Visa credit card, and it is accepted almost everywhere worldwide. However, it comes with a 3% foreign transaction fee charged for purchases made outside the U.S.

What credit score is needed for a Disney Visa Card?

There is no set credit score requirement for the Disney Visa Card. Chase looks at your overall creditworthiness to determine approval, including your credit history and credit score. We recommend you have a good to excellent FICO credit score to be safe, which is a score of 670 or higher.

Which Disney credit card is the best?

The Disney Visa Card and the Disney® Premier Visa® Card offer the same exclusive discounts, perks, and vacation financing. The Disney Visa Card is your best option if you want a card with a $0 annual fee. For a bigger welcome bonus and a higher earning rate, the Disney Premier Visa Card is a better option. With the Disney Premier, you can earn a $400 statement credit after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening; plus, 5% in Disney Rewards Dollars on purchases made directly at DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com, and ESPNPlus.com; 2% on purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and most Disney U.S. locations; and 1% on all other purchases.

Other cards to consider

If earning Disney Rewards Dollars is your ultimate goal, the Disney Premier Visa Card will get you there much faster than the Disney Visa Card. It offers a larger welcome bonus and a higher earning rate. Although it does have a $49 annual fee, the Disney Premier Visa also gives the option to redeem Rewards Dollars for a statement credit for air travel. The rest of this card’s perks are almost identical to those you get with the Disney Visa Card.

Disney co-branded credit cards aren’t the only way to earn and redeem rewards for Disney trips. In fact, other credit cards could offer more value for Disney fans. For instance, the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card offers 10% cash back on purchases made through Uber & Uber Eats (through 11/14/2024); 8% cash back on Capital One Entertainment; 4% cash back on dining, entertainment, and select streaming services; 3% at grocery stores (excluding superstores such as Walmart® and Target®), and 1% cash back on all other purchases. You can use your cashback rewards to get a statement credit for Disney park tickets.

Plus, with this card, you can earn a $300 cash bonus after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months, which you could use to offset the cost of a Disney vacation.

With no foreign transaction fees, the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card is also the perfect companion for trips to Disney parks and resorts overseas. It does have a $95 annual fee, but the high earning rate, travel benefits, and welcome bonus can easily offset that cost.

Disney® Visa® Card: Bottom line

The Disney Visa Card can be a good option for people who love going on vacation to Disney parks and resorts and who want to use this card to access Disney perks. If you’re not a big Disney fan, or you only go to the parks every few years, then another rewards credit card that earns more on everyday purchases might be a better option for you.
