Outback Steakhouse Closes 41 Stores Across 8 States: Is Your Favorite Spot Gone?

The restaurant industry has faced challenging times. Over the last year, many chain eateries, like Boston Market and Applebee's, have closed locations nationwide. This can make it even more challenging to find your favorite, dependable dish on a budget. 

If you plan to go out to eat more in 2025, then it's important to know the latest restaurant closures. 

Here are the latest Outback Steakhouse locations that have closed nationwide. 

Outback Steakhouse closed several locations in Pennsylvania, including one at 3527 Union Deposit Road in Susquehanna Township in February 2024 after serving customers for nearly 30 years.

Another location that shut its doors in February 2024 was at 1905 Waddle Road in Patton Township near College Station, home of Penn State University.

"We appreciate the community's support for the past 24 years," wrote a spokesperson for Bloomin' Brands in an email to a local news organization. Bloomin' Brand is the parent company of Outback Steakhouse.

One of the locations shut down in Illinois as part of the round of closings was in Mount Prospect, a suburb of Chicago in March 2024. 

A sign on the door that was posted to social media read, "This location is now closed. Thank you for the years of support."

Florida saw multiple closures, including at least four restaurants that were apparently shut down for good, according to local media.

The locked restaurants included Outback Steakhouse locations in Jupiter, North Miami Beach, Orlando, and Sarasota.

The chain opened its first Outback Steakhouse in Tampa, Florida, and its Bloomin' Brands parent company is still based there.

Michigan saw several closures, including its location in Kentwood and another in Roseville.

The Roseville location had been open for almost 30 years when it closed in February 2024. 

The closing of the Outback Steakhouse location in Akron, near Cleveland, brought tears to the eyes of one big celebrity.

"Nooooo @kingjames!!! Our first date memories," posted Savannah James to her husband, basketball star LeBron James. He replied with "Why why why," with several crying emojis.

The Outback Steakhouse at 3939 First Ave. SE in Cedar Rapids shut down in late February 2024 as part of the changes. 

Outback Steakhouse closed all three of its locations in Hawaii, with spots in Kapolei, Kona, and Waipio closing for good.

The manager for the Kapolei Kona Outback location encouraged diners to use their  gift cards before the restaurant closures. 

Outback Steakhouse had only one location in New Hampshire before the company decided to shut it down.

Closing the Seabrook location meant that two New England states — Maine and New Hampshire — now lack a single Outback Steakhouse for residents to enjoy.

Bloomin' Brands enacted the store closures at underperforming locations in 2024. 

Although they have yet to announce store closures for 2025, the company may be focused on stability after a lackluster 2024 Q3 earnings report in November 2024. 

Company representatives have cited several factors behind the 2024 closures, including decreased customer traffic and sales as well as older leases. 

Natural disasters such as hurricanes have impacted sales at restaurant locations too. Moving forward, the company plans to further prioritize diners in order to increase revenue. 

"As I continue listening and learning during this evaluative period, it is clear to me that our path to sustainable sales and profit growth will be enabled by our team members executing a consistent and elevated guest experience, focusing first on Outback Steakhouse," said Bloomin' Brands CEO Mike Spanos in a Q3 2024 earnings call. 

August 2024 coverage reported that 15 new Outback locations were projected to be opened by December 2024 in addition to remodeling select restaurants. 

Although it's unclear if the company hit that goal, some financial experts believe Bloomin' Brands might be focused on stability and profits at existing locations, as opposed to increasing restaurant quantity. 

Outback Steakhouse could be a good option if you enjoy dining out. Also, getting discounts on take-out steaks to enjoy at home could be a great way to save money on groceries and time on dishes.
