It's a rough time of year for folks who don't care for the fall flavor of the season. While pumpkin spice has been a staple of seasonal fall menus for several years, that trend is slowing — and more restaurants are offering other traditional fall favorites alongside the plethora of pumpkin-themed foods and beverages. Panera Bread is bucking the trend entirely this year and instead focuses on warm breakfast on-the-go options.

The only pumpkin on the menu is a cookie, and it's free if you sign up for MyPanera, the reward program for Panera customers. Signing up for loyalty programs can be annoying, but it's also one of several ways to stretch your budget further so you can enjoy going out to eat more often.

Bottom line

Roman Tiraspolsky Panera Bread store exterior

Panera Bread has recently added several new items to its menu, hoping to lure customers back to dining out instead of eating meals at home to save money. The rising cost of restaurant dining has hit many families hard, turning it from a regular occurrence to a rarer treat.

If you're struggling to afford eating out, it might be time to check up on your financial health so you can make moves that allow you the freedom to eat when and where you like.
