You probably know how great Wawa stores are if you live in one of the seven areas where the convenience store has established itself. These places are:
- Delaware
- Florida
- Maryland
- New Jersey
- Pennsylvania
- Virginia
- Washington, D.C.
Wawa can be a great place to shop, with reasonable prices that help you keep more cash in your wallet. Now, the chain is expanding its footprint into states such as Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.
However, one state has really hit the jackpot: It will get 80 Wawa stores soon.

Wawa moves forward with new locations
In October, Wawa announced plans to expand into North Carolina with eight new locations in the Tar Heel State in 2024.
The first of these locations, in Kill Devil Hills in the Outer Banks area, opened in May 2024. The company plans to open two locations in Wilson and another two in Goldsboro. There will also be stores in Elizabeth City, Rocky Mount, and Greenville.
However, those eight stores are only the start of Wawa’s expansion plans. The company also said it currently has more than 30 sites under contract in the state that are at various stages of getting approval from local authorities.
Wawa hopes to open an additional 15 stores in 2025 and 10 more in 2026. Over the next decade, Wawa expects to open 80 locations in eastern and central North Carolina and 280 locations worldwide, including in Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky.
So, consider yourself lucky if you’re in one of those areas, and keep an eye out for announcements of a new Wawa opening close to you.
What new stores mean for the state’s economy
Wawa fans are likely excited to see new locations pop up in their areas. The new stores can also benefit the local economy.
Wawa estimates that the expansion will create more than 2,800 jobs throughout the state for North Carolinians, with around 35 associates needed for each location that opens.
The company is already investing millions of dollars into the expansion process. It estimates that each location will cost around $7 million to build and will create employment for around 140 local contractors and partners.
Why you want a Wawa in your state
In the states where Wawa already has a presence, it is well-known for its food, drinks, and gas stations.
You’ll find plenty of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. That includes roast beef or turkey hoagies and meatball parm sandwiches. You can also find breakfast burritos to give you a good boost in the morning.
The retailer also has plenty of coffee options. You can get a hot cup of coffee in the morning or grab single-cup servings or a bag of ground coffee to take home with you.
Get a protection plan on all your appliances
