Are you always stressed about money?
I’m not a betting person, but I bet you’ve thought about money at least once today. I know I have.
Money can be both exciting and insanely stressful, depending on the day.
Some days I have a little pep in my step, while other days I’m frazzled and wishing for the barter system to be on trend again.
Everything we do – from watching TV, to eating a meal, or opening a garage door – is probably tied to money in some way, shape, or form.
No wonder why we’re so stressed about money!
Thankfully, there’s hope. If you want to stress less about your finances, there are a slew of apps to do the dirty work for you when it comes to managing money (and help it stretch as far as humanly possible).
Here’s a few to get you started.
1. Get Those Monthly Bills Down
Your cable bill is due (again!) and you’re not too happy about the outage that lasted an entire day that made you miss the next episode of your favorite TV show. I wouldn’t be too happy to pay for the entire month. Would you?
Luckily, there’s an app that will negotiate getting you a refund on that outage.
Trim will negotiate to get you reimbursed when the AI system detects an outage so you don’t have to wait on hold with customer service. Whatever refund is granted, you’ll get 75% while Trim keeps 25% for doing the hard work for you.
I’d say that’s a fair trade.
2. Rest Easy With This Retirement Planning Tool
Some days I’m so stressed about money that retirement doesn’t even look like a possibility for me, but thanks to this app, I may get to start planning my retirement party after all!
Blooom is capable of analyzing your current 401(k) to determine if you’re getting the best options. They analyze your fees and stocks/bonds to see if you’re on track to retire when you want – and that’s the free service!
If you decide to upgrade to the plan that’s $10/month, Blooom will take over your 401(k), reconfigure it, and make adjustments for you.
In other words, they’ll have you thinking money really can grow on trees.
3. Stash Some Cash Away
Now that you’ve got your money trees growing, you can let Stash help you get started with investing.
Investing can sound scary or intimidating, but Stash simplifies the process by letting you choose from a set of simple portfolios that reflect your beliefs, interests, and goals.
Plus, it’s accessible to anyone – get started with as little as $5 and for just a $1 monthly fee for balances under $5,000 (no $1 fee the first month).
Bonus: FinanceBuzz has partnered up with Stash to help fund your first investment! By signing up HERE, you’ll get a $5 bonus to get started.
4. Reclaim Your Time & Stop Tracking Prices
Have you ever bought something only to find that the price goes down a day or two later? Maybe even a couple hours later?
You can stop worrying about that by downloading Paribus, a free app that tracks price drops.
Paribus keeps track of online purchases using an email address and claims the difference on an item you purchased if the price goes down at a store with a price adjustment policy. So, no need to manually go back to the store and check for price drops.
Paribus has a list of the retailers they track to help increase your chances of getting an extra refund by shopping there.
5. Earn Passive Income
When I talk about passive income streams, you might be wondering how it’s different from having an app to negotiate refunds, track prices, or make micro-investments for you, but hear me out.
Dosh is totally different.
Dosh keeps track of transactions you make at companies that offer cash back on purchases.
For example, you might not get a refund from a price drop at Bed Bath & Beyond, but they do offer 7.5% cash back when you purchase online from them. Dosh can help you get that 7.5% back.
Register your debit and/or credit card with Dosh, then make purchases as normal.
It’s addicting and fun to check back to see if you’ve gotten any money back!
6. Get Cash Back on Everything
If passive income is more your style, then getting a credit card that offers cash back rewards on all purchases may be right up your alley.
It’s one of the easiest ways to get some extra money over the course of the year without changing your spending habits or downloading any apps.
Be careful not to get caught up in the credit card game though. Make sure you’re paying your balance off each month, or you might as well be using those cash rewards to pay your interest charges.
My personal favorite credit card is the Chase Freedom Unlimited. I get 1.5% cash back on all my purchases and the earnings are unlimited. I don’t even have to pay an annual fee.
You can get an introductory 0% APR for the first 15-months and $150 cash back when you spend $500 in the first three months.
Considering my monthly budget over the course of three months, that minimum isn’t too difficult to reach and the extra $150 bonus sure is nice!
If you find yourself restless at night because you just paid all your bills and the rest of the month is going to be tight, be productive and go through this list so you can maximize every dollar you have.
After you’ve done that, it will be much easier to relax and stress less about your finances.
