As summer ends, Wendy's hopes to lure customers in on those hot days we still have left with a $1 Frosty deal. The promotion has begun and is good through Sept. 15 at participating locations nationwide. How good are the savings?

According to a recent study, the cost of a small Frosty has jumped 111% over the last 10 years. A small Frosty currently runs $2.09, but they used to be regularly priced at $0.99.

This promotional return to the previous pricing is part of a larger fast-food trend to combat losing customers to high pricing. There is a limit to how much people are willing to pay for "junk food." If you're already stretching your restaurant budget, you may prioritize a higher-caliber restaurant for the occasional treat over a long wait in the drive-through line.

If a $1 deal on a Frosty sounds delicious, pick up the Classic Chocolate or try the new  Triple Berry Frosty. It's likely to be the last time the new flavor is available, as Wendy's will probably roll out a fall-themed flavor after the promotion ends. Find out more about the Triple Berry flavor and how it holds up to the other limited edition Frosty flavors.

The Triple Berry Frosty debuted on Monday, June 10, in stores across the U.S., making it the latest of the chain’s seasonal items. While it's unclear exactly how long the flavor will be available, it’s safe to guess — based on the Orange Dreamsicle’s three-month run — that it’ll only be on the menu for a few months.

You may also remember previous seasons' flavors; last summer’s strawberry frosty, last fall’s pumpkin spice frosty, and last winter’s peppermint frosty all followed similar months-long menu availability.

Love it or hate it

There were many mixed reactions to the news of the Triple Berry Frosty on social media.

One food reviewer who goes by the username @snackolator did not approve of the latest flavor. “It tastes like cough syrup, it really does,” they said in a post reviewing the item. “It’s got like a berry taste but there’s like an aftertaste that reminds me of DayQuil.”

One commenter who tried the flavor disagreed and said they “loved it.”

“It tastes like the @costco Berry Sundae all blended up.”

While many people seemed to be on board with the chain’s latest flavor, many also just wanted some of the old flavors back on the menu.

“Boooooo!!!!! Make the orange dreamsicle frosty permanent!!!!!!!” one person commented.

“They should just bring back the vanilla and call it a day,” someone else wrote.
