It's too early to pull out the "back in my day, things only cost a dollar" schtick because there are actually some great deals for a buck at Dollar General — especially when it comes to snacks. 

Despite the name, not everything in the store is priced around a dollar, but these snacks are this week. Saving money on groceries can be difficult, and this is especially true in "food deserts," where many turn to dollar stores for their grocery shopping.

Animal Crackers are the perfect snack — not too sweet but also filling. Right now, you can grab the original snack-pack for just a dollar. 

If you're craving M&Ms, no other candy-coated chocolate will do. It's not a huge amount per package, but it does contain more than the average size you would find standing in line at the grocery. 

Get three snack-sized packs of Gushers for just $1. A regular-sized box contains six pouches and costs, on average, about $3 to $5. 

Some days, you need to dunk a sugar stick into more sugar as a coping snack. Fun Dip packs run about $2 to $3 if you grab them from an end-cap at a grocery. 

Dollar General has a lot of items that cost more than a dollar, but it also still offers many items at the $1 price and even more at $1.25.
