Restaurant chains have been closing throughout the year, with locations shutting down across the country.
Burger joints weren’t immune as restaurant chains shut down locations, which might help you save money on dining out but at the cost of losing your favorite spot.
Here are a few burger places that you may miss soon if they haven’t already disappeared from your neighborhood.

Hardee’s
Hardee’s closed several locations nationwide this year, with stores closing in Tennessee, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
Illinois was hit particularly hard, with at least seven cities, including Champaign, Springfield, Carterville, Chatham, and Monticello, losing their Hardee's locations.
The Hardee’s restaurant in Springfield was a fixture in the community after opening the location in 1984.
Shake Shack
Shake Shack announced in August that it planned to close nine locations across three states.
California took the biggest hit, with six shuttered locations, while two restaurants closed in Texas and one in Ohio.
The company said in a statement that the closures were due to a variety of reasons, including underperforming restaurants.
BurgerFi
BurgerFi shut down locations due to financial woes, with nine restaurants closed in Florida and one in Tennessee.
The burger chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September and disclosed the store closures as part of its court filings.
The company blamed its financial woes on post-pandemic economic issues, such as reduced consumer spending and rising costs.

Burbs Burgers
Burbs Burgers is a relatively small restaurant chain with five locations in the Seattle area. It opened its first location in 2020.
The company opened four other locations after that but struggled to generate revenue, and one location had issues with the county’s health department.
All five locations were shut down earlier this year after Burbs Burgers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy at the end of 2023.
Wendy’s
Fast-food giant Wendy’s announced earlier this year that it expected to see around 100 locations across the country close their doors for good.
The company insisted that the number of closures was typical for a year, and the chain still anticipated opening new locations, with a net increase of spots by the end of 2024.

And pizza chain MOD Pizza shut down locations due to financial struggles before being acquired earlier this year by Elit Restaurant Group.
Other restaurants that also have closed locations

Applebee’s and Cracker Barrel also announced some closures this year due to typical restaurant issues such as underperforming locations.
Bottom line
Burger joints can be a favorite spot for dinner, but it can be tough when your favorite spot shuts down.
You can still enjoy a great burger by shopping for the best deals on groceries, saving money, and trying out new recipes at home.
And if your favorite places are still open nearby, consider signing up for restaurant apps that can earn you perks or offer discounts for loyal customers.
