What is Solitaire Cube?

Solitaire Cube is a mobile gaming app available for compatible devices on the App Store, Google Play, and Galaxy Store. This includes both Android and iOS devices. The game is a modern version of the classic Solitaire card game but set in a competitive environment where you face off against other players to see who can get a higher score.

The Solitaire Cube app was created by Tether Studios, a game development studio based out of Oakland, California and Henderson, Nevada. Tether was founded in 2014 by Aletheia O’Neil and Tim O’Neil and focuses on skill-based mobile games that use the Skillz games platform. Other popular Tether Studios games include 21 Blitz, TriPeaks Solitaire Cube, and Bubble Cube 2.

Tether Studios games have amassed more than 20 million global players, with multiple games ranking highly in their respective App Store categories. Solitaire Cube is ranked in the top 100 Casino games in the App Store and has a 4.6 out of 5 overall rating, with more than 100,000 ratings and reviews.

How does Solitaire Cube work?

The point of Solitaire Cube is to win games by scoring higher than your opponent. Solitaire Cube is based on the classic Klondike Solitaire game, which typically involves a 52-card deck of cards, a tableau area, a foundation area, a stock pile, and a waste pile.

Your goal is to get as many cards as possible in the foundation area by making four stacks, building from an ace to a king in the same suit. You can also build stacks in the tableau area using alternating colors in king-to-ace order. You draw from the stock pile into the waste pile and use those cards to make moves around the board.

You score points in Solitaire Cube if you stack cards in the foundation and tableau areas, though a key feature is earning a much higher number of points for foundation stacks. You can also score points by having time remaining on your five-minute timer. The game ends when you complete the four foundation stacks, the time runs out, or you manually end the game because you can’t make any moves.

To join a game, select from one of the available game modes. This involves choosing between the free game modes or the cash tournaments. Every game mode has an entry fee, whether it’s using Z coins, the in-game virtual currency, or your available cash balance.

You automatically start with a certain number of Z coins after downloading the app and playing a few practice games, but you can earn more by winning games, collecting daily rewards, watching ads, and doing other activities. This makes it relatively easy to continue playing the free game mode as long as you’d like. You can also deposit your own money to participate in cash tournaments.

Here are some of the basic game modes available in Solitaire Cube:

  • Practice: This is the standard free game mode where you can play against another player using Z coins as the entry fee. Prizes include Z coins, tickets, and Leagues medals.
  • Head-to-head: Play against another player using your cash balance. Prizes include cash, tickets, and Leagues medals.
  • Brackets: Play against multiple players using your cash balance or Z coins. Prizes could include cash, Z coins, tickets, and Leagues medals.
  • Events: Play against other players in limited-time events, typically using your cash balance. Prizes often include cash and tickets.

After playing a certain number of games, you’ll be automatically entered into Leagues. This is an ongoing timed prize pool available to all players who’ve played a sufficient number of games, which is usually between three to five. In Leagues, you’re competing against other players for a portion of a specific prize pool.

The more Leagues medals you earn from playing different game modes, the more your Leagues ranking will climb. Leagues is separated into Pro and Practice categories depending on whether you use Z coins or your cash balance to play different game modes. You could win Z coins from the Practice Leagues category and cash or tickets from the Pro Leagues category.

Who can use Solitaire Cube?

As a game using real money, Solitaire Cube is rated for individuals 17 and older on the App Store. However, the Skillz platform requires you to be 18 or older to compete in its tournaments.

Compatible devices, including iPhones, can find Solitaire Cube available on the App Store in the following languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish.

Skillz cash tournaments aren’t available in all locations, including certain U.S. states. Cash tournaments aren’t allowed in the following states:

  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Louisiana
  • Montana
  • South Carolina
  • South Dakota
  • Tennessee

Solitaire Cube could make sense to play if you enjoy Klondike Solitaire and want to compete against other players. But remember, this game can be potentially addicting because this app uses real money to play.

How much can you earn with Solitaire Cube?

Playing Solitaire Cube isn’t likely going to make you rich, but it could provide some income on the side, similar to many of the best side hustles.

If you know how to play Solitaire, you might already be familiar with Solitaire Cube’s gameplay. This could give you a leg up on some of your competition who might just be learning how to play. And if you’re skilled enough, you could be competing for prize pools of $200 or more.

For example, you might play a game mode that requires a $120 entry fee and the winner gets $200. There’s more than a fair share of risk involved here, but the odds of winning could favor the player with more skill. You could also play for much lower stakes, such as paying 25 cents to play for a cash prize of 42 cents.

If you don’t want to deposit any of your own money, you would typically need to earn enough bonus cash through in-game activities to be able to participate in cash tournaments. This could involve referring friends to get the game or earning tickets from playing different game modes. Tickets have different redemption options within the app, including bonus cash and products.

Keep in mind that you typically earn one ticket for playing any of the free game modes, and it takes 20,000 tickets to get $1 of bonus cash. Using this strategy alone could mean spending a lot of time and effort to get enough bonus cash to participate in a cash tournament.

If you want to cash out money from your cash balance, it’s as simple as selecting “Withdraw” from the in-game menu, which should be an available option if you’ve created a Skillz account. You can’t withdraw bonus cash, but you can withdraw any money you’ve deposited or won. Cash withdrawals up to your deposit amount are typically returned by the same method used for the original deposit, including a credit card or PayPal account. Any withdrawal amount over your deposit amount is sent by mailed check for U.S. players and PayPal in other locations.
