Austin, Texas
Austin is one of the four locations that IKEA announced as the location for a new Plan and Order point.
The Austin area already has an IKEA store with a traditional layout in Round Rock.
Atlanta, Georgia
According to an announcement from IKEA, Atlanta is expected to get a Plan and Order point, but an official location hasn’t been mentioned yet.
Atlanta already has an IKEA on 16th Street and two pick-up locations in Norcross and Marietta.
Pick-up locations don’t have the traditional floor or retail space of a typical IKEA. Instead, you can order online and designate a pick-up time to get all your items.
Los Angeles, California
Los Angeles will be getting two new Plan and Order points in addition to the city’s existing IKEA locations.
The greater Los Angeles area already has four stores, a pick-up location, and a Plan and Order point.
As with the other cities, there’s been no official announcement from IKEA on where they will locate these new Plan and Order points.
Get a protection plan on all your appliances
Did you know if your air conditioner stops working, your homeowner’s insurance won’t cover it? Same with plumbing, electrical issues, appliances, and more.
Whether or not you’re a new homeowner, a home warranty from Choice Home Warranty could pick up the slack where insurance falls short and protect you against surprise expenses. If a covered system in your home breaks, you can call their hotline 24/7 to get it repaired.
For a limited time, you can get your first month free with a Single Payment home warranty plan.
What is a Plan and Order point?
IKEA’s Plan and Order points are different than the typical store you may be familiar with, which has plenty of items to pick up and take home (and Swedish meatballs as well).
Instead, a Plan and Order point allows you to sit with an IKEA specialist to help you plan a room using the retailer’s products.
You can create a new kitchen with IKEA cabinets, design a bedroom with IKEA furniture, or redo your living spaces with IKEA accent pieces to make it a better space.
How does a Plan and Order point work?
First, you’ll want to make an appointment with an IKEA specialist to discuss what you’re looking for and develop a plan you approve.
You’ll need to order the pieces you want as there are no IKEA products in stock at a Plan and Order location.
Instead, you can have furniture and other items delivered to you, or you can pick them up at an IKEA pick-up location.
Then, you assemble the pieces yourself at home just as you would any other IKEA furniture based on the design you worked on with a Plan and Order specialist.

How many Plan and Order points are there?
There are currently five Plan and Order locations in the U.S., so the additional four announced by IKEA will almost double the number of these specialty locations.
You may be lucky enough to have an IKEA Plan and Order point if you’re in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. There are also two locations in northern Virginia and two in greater Los Angeles.
What’s not at a Plan and Order point?
One of the biggest differences between an IKEA and a Plan and Order point is the lack of any IKEA items you can take home.
The locations have showrooms with different room layouts for you to look at as you decide if you need a refresh or a complete renovation for different rooms in your home.
But you’ll have to order any items you see in the showrooms or things you decide to buy with the assistance of an IKEA designer.
You can have those items delivered to your home or pick them up at a designated location as opposed to buying anything and taking it home that day with you from a Plan and Order point.
What can you do with Plan and Order?
IKEA touts the Plan and Order points as locations that you can visit to design kitchens, bedrooms, and living rooms.
Designers in those locations can also help you with other rooms or design challenges. Set up an appointment or talk to a Plan and Order point representative to see what they can help you with.
Bottom line
IKEA is a great place to shop if you want to save money on furniture and don’t mind assembling items yourself.
The retailer can also help you design a new room at its Plan and Order points, but you may want to set a budget before you go to help you keep more cash in your wallet.
