According to Noodles & Company's first-quarter report, there could be 21 restaurant closures in 2025. Of these, 13 to 17 company-owned restaurants (previously 12 to 15) and four franchised restaurants may be affected.

Locations are being trimmed due to rising costs. However, based on numbers from its 380 company-owned restaurants and 89 franchised locations in 31 states, revenue is up. The brand is experiencing growth, so its overall outlook remains positive.

Location shutdowns are TBD

Closure locations have not been publicly shared, although there are speculations surrounding Illinois locations (as there are 50+ restaurants in the state).

Drew Madsen, CEO of Noodles & Company, indicated that they will most likely end lease contracts when the time comes and that decisions are still ongoing. The closure choices are part of an ongoing review of the company's portfolio and growth strategy.

Two new stores are set to open

Despite potential financial struggles, Noodles & Company may also open two new restaurants in 2025. "Our focus remains on operating a strong, healthy restaurant base that allows us to deliver the best possible experience to our guests," a Noodles & Company spokesperson said.

New openings would likely occur in high-potential areas, like the suburbs of Texas or Florida. Some believe this announcement is a potential PR play to soften the closure news.

Early on, Noodles & Company was on the brink of closing within a year of its first store opening because of a negative review. The company pivoted its operations and found success.

In 2017, Noodles & Company closed 55 restaurants in six months due to underperformance. At the time, this equated to 10% of their existing storefronts. In 2024, thirteen locations closed.

July is in full swing, bringing the height of summer. That also means peak season for hot deals and unbeatable savings. Now’s the time to save big on:

  • Grills, coolers, and outdoor living upgrades
  • Travel must-haves for road trips and beach days
  • Swimwear and summer fashion
  • For grocery savings, grab seasonal produce like watermelon, peaches, and tomatoes

While you're enjoying the sunshine, retailers are quietly making room for back-to-school inventory. That makes July a prime opportunity to scoop up summer favorites while the deals are still blazing.

In 2002, there were 37 storefronts. By 2003, that number reached 65, and by 2007, it had increased to 142. Today, there are over 450 locations, and in 2024 alone, the beloved chain opened 13 restaurants.

However, the company is focusing on franchise expansion, digital engagement, and menu innovation. "We think we're working on the right things to make a difference," said CEO Drew Madsen.

The restaurant will continue to innovate with its menu
