Big box stores often have the luxury of having in-house brands to rival household name brands. In fact, a great Walmart shopping hack is knowing that you will find a ton of knockoff items at a ction of the price of competitors. 

But with so many of these off-brand items available, which ones can you trust to even come close to the classic?

While Kraft rules the boxed aisles, Reddit overwhelmingly agrees that the Great Value brand boxed mac and cheese is actually better. “The GV shell Mac and cheese is the best,” raves one Redditor:

You can’t beat the price either: it’s only 58 cents per box.

Generally, one of the cheapest options when it comes to eggs, the Great Value brand apparently has a great relationship with their supplier so they can get you the best prices.

Right now, an 18-count of large white eggs comes out to just 32.6 cents per egg, while brands like Eggland’s Best will run you a whopping 40.8 cents per egg.

If you need a good multi-pack of water bottles, Great Value always has them at the best price. Customers seem to agree that the taste is actually better, lacking the chlorine and salty hints of other brands.

Plus, snagging a 40-pack for just $5.63 sounds practically unheard of.

America is in love with Doritos for a number of reasons. Luckily, you can score a knockoff of the popular Cool Ranch flavor at Walmart for half the price of a bag of Doritos. The Glacier Ranch Tortilla Chips cost $2.24 versus Doritos’ $4.48.

One Redditor gushes: "I will go through a party size bag of Glacier Ranch in one [to] two days.”

Fans of chocolate and peanut butter together are in luck because their favorite Girl Scout cookie has been convincingly duped and is now less than half the price at Walmart.

$2.12 will get you 18 delicious chocolaty peanut butter-filled cookies covered in more chocolate. One Redditor refers to these cookies as “little bites of heaven.”

Great Value’s trash bags are rumored to be produced by the Reynolds company. This means a few of their items are of higher quality, including the trash bags.

Many Redditors echo the sentiment that they hold up like the Glad brand, and several Redditors admit that they only buy Great Value bags.

Tuna can be a toss-up when it comes to quality, and some brands just don’t do the trick. However, Great Value tuna seems to take the cake.

A Redditor claims that “just opening the can you can see a huge difference” and the affordable price of 88 cents per can increase its popularity.

While Nutrigrain is the household name for fruit and grain bars, Great Value’s options are touted as even better. Redditors echo this sentiment. “It's one of the few where I actively am not a fan of the name brand,” one reveals.

The Great Value brand is softer and less crumbly than its competitors, with an 8-bar box clocking in at $2.27 versus Kellogg’s $3.18.

Hot Pockets are the go-to for warm, easy sandwiches on the go. But the Great Value ham and cheese option has people abuzz. At $1.98, a two-pack runs at least $1 less than the Hot Pockets brand.

“They actually taste and feel like stuffed bread instead of a hollow bread shell,” explains one Redditor.

If you could get a bag of knockoff Cheetos Puffs for a third of the price, you might lean into it. A 13.5-ounce bag of the popular Great Value Cheese Puffs is just $2.86, whereas Cheetos will run you $8 or more for the same size.

Explains one Redditor, “The great value puffy Cheetos taste almost exactly like regular Cheetos except better and they have a better texture and more cheese.”

Yoplait is a household name, but Great Value strawberry yogurt has real strawberry fruit chunks in it and it’s slightly less expensive. While Yoplait’s 8-cup pack is 10.9 cents per ounce, Great Value clocks in at 9.8 cents per ounce.

One Redditor adds, “Their 12 packs of strawberry and strawberry banana yogurt are really good.”

If you’re partial to Chick-fil-A’s branded dipping sauce, then it’s time to experience the Great Value knockoff, which Redditors can’t stop complimenting. One Redditor admits, “Yes, [I] like it better than Chik-fil-A [sic] sauce.”

The restaurant-brand version will cost you 24.9 cents per ounce, while the Great Value option is just 19 cents per ounce.

Cheez-Its are a fan-favorite because of the real cheese flavor and crunchy satisfying bite, but a 21-ounce box will run you $5.78, while the same-sized Great Value option is $4.12, and many say even better than the original

Exclaims one Redditor, “Great Value ‘cheez its’ are by far better than the name brand.”

Rumor has it that Blue Bunny ice cream is made in the same factory as the Great Value brand, so it’s no wonder that the internet is raving about their dessert options. 48 ounces of the Walmart brand only costs $2.87, while the same-sized tub of Blue Bunny is $4.48.

“The GV Fudge Tracks is amazing,” praises one Redditor.

If you’re looking for tasty, high-quality breakfast sausage for your next sandwich or on-the-go bowl, the Great Value frozen patties are it. They are only $4.45 per pound compared to Jimmy Dean’s $8.28.

Admits one Redditor, “They are the only patties I buy now. They're literally twice the size of the name brand.”
