These U.S. Ski Resorts Will Be Open in May, June, and Beyond!

The 2024 skiing season has been an extraordinary one so far by all measures, with skiers and snowboarders enjoying breathtaking conditions.

The snowfall has provided ample powder to the delight of winter sports lovers and has been so abundant that it's allowing many ski resorts to extend their usual season-end dates.

Many routinely stay open into late May, June, and beyond, so grab your skis and one of the best travel credit cards and hit the slopes!

We’ll start with our East Coast outlier; the famed Killington has the longest ski season out of all resorts east of the Rockies.

The 4,241-foot “Beast of the East” has received 209 inches of snow this season, keeping operations at the biggest resort on the Eastern Seaboard running smoothly.

Killington’s season usually runs into May, though it has bled into June on more than one occasion, including last year. Fingers crossed it will get there again.

Located 53 miles west of Denver, Loveland Ski Area in Colorado has 1,800 acres of skiable terrain and 9 lifts, as well as beautiful views of the Continental Divide.

Loveland has received 226 inches of snow this season, a fair amount below its average of 316 inches. Loveland will be open until May 12, a few weeks longer than their usual season, even though they got a little less powder than usual.

Tucked in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado near Denver, Winter Park Resort attracts visitors from around the world.

This season, the resort has received a total of 321 inches of snowfall, less than the average of 344 inches but still creating great skiing and snowboarding conditions.

Winter Park Resort will only keep the Winter Park side of the mountain open until the end of April but has extended its season on the Mary Jane side of the mountain into May and for as long as possible; the rest is closed for the season. Will it make it all the way into June? It's possible.

Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado has 2,908 acres of skiable terrain, giving skiers stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. It boasts the tallest lift in the U.S., too.

On average, this popular resort gets 355 inches of the white stuff. As of the end of March, they were up to 267.

All five peaks will remain open until April 14, and Breckenridge plans to keep three peaks open for skiers through May, guaranteeing you can get some powdery runs in before summer sets in.

Mt. Bachelor, located in the heart of Central Oregon, is known for its sprawling 4,400-acre terrain and 360-degree views.

The mountain has received a whopping 330 inches of the powdery stuff this season. While it's unclear yet if the sixth-largest ski resort in the U.S. will remain open into June, it’s extended its season through May 26.

With over 2,500 acres of skiable terrain nestled in the Wasatch Mountains, Snowbird is a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts.

To the delight of skiers, the resort has been blessed with 483 inches of snowfall so far this season. Even better, Snowbird has decided to extend its ski season this year through Memorial Day weekend, so you can hit the slopes through at least May 27.

The family-friendly Brighton Ski Resort is located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah. It has eight lifts, 65 trails, and an average annual snowfall of approximately 500 inches.

However, Brighton has received a whopping 475 inches of snow so far this year, putting it on track to beat that average. 

The Brighton Ski Resort has yet to be announced, but last year the resort officially closed on April 30 and partially reopened — specifically its Milly lift — on May 5. The "Milly Meltdown remained open until May 29.

Fondly called A-Basin by locals, Arapahoe Basin is a renowned ski resort in Summit County, Colorado.

The resort's high altitude and north-facing slopes ensure that the snow stays fresh and abundant throughout the season. As for the snowfall this year, Arapahoe Basin has clocked over 201 inches.

In keeping with its usual schedule of being the first to open and toward the last to close, A-Basin will remain open until June 4 for skiing before it transitions into its warm season operations.

Mammoth Ski Resort is one of California's top ski destinations, located in the eastern Sierra Nevadas. With over 3,500 acres of skiable terrain, Mammoth also has 25 ski lifts and hundreds of trails.

The resort has seen just over 290 inches of snowfalll on Mammoth this season, making powder skiing and groomed runs a delight.

Mammoth Ski Resort usually stays open into May, which is later than many other resorts, telling skiers and snowboarders they hope to be open until at least Memorial Day.

Like Mammoth Mountain, Palisades Tahoe (formerly Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows) is a top-of-the-line ski resort in the Sierra Nevadas.

It's larger, however, with over 6,000 acres of skiable terrain. As for snowfall this season, 362 have been recorded so far this season. 

Given the abundance of the powdery stuff, Palisades Tahoe Resort will remain open until May 27. That means you can celebrate the country's birthday out on the slopes instead of out by the grill.

Timberline in Oregon boasts a vertical terrain of over 4,540 feet — the longest in the U.S.

The resort (officially named Timberline Lodge) is on the south slope of Mount Hood, with enchanting vistas of the surrounding mountains. This year, Timberline received an impressive 465 inches of snowfall so far.

Timberline is known for having one of the longest ski seasons of all, with its spring season running through May 27.

This ski season has been both promising and memorable so far.

And winter sports lovers can continue to earn travel rewards and enjoy skiing into the late spring and early summer, which is quite a treat.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy these resorts during the off-season, as well, because many offer hiking, sightseeing, and other events in the warm months.

That will give you the chance to enjoy your favorite outdoor venues as they become colorful with blooms and plant life.
