What is Capital One Travel?

Capital One Travel is a portal exclusively for cardholders to book flights, hotels, rental cars, and now vacation rentals. You can use Capital One miles or pay with an eligible card to make these bookings.

It’s powered by Hopper, a free travel app that can help you find deals on travel bookings. Because of this partnership, Capital One Travel includes features that make the portal easy to navigate regardless of your travel research experience.

For example, Capital One Travel arranges the dates on a calendar by color when checking dates for a travel booking. Dates in yellow or green are the best prices, whereas those in orange or red are more expensive. More on that below when we talk about how to book.

Perks of Capital One Travel

Capital One Travel offers exclusive benefits to eligible Capital One cardholders. These benefits include guarantees and protections you might find helpful for your travel plans, including the following free features:

  • Price prediction: Capital One Travel works with the Hopper travel app to provide cardmembers with a price prediction tool that might help them determine the best time to book travel. The tool draws on historical data and current trends to determine how flight prices might fluctuate.
  • Alerts: You can set a price alert for your desired destination and dates, and Capital One Travel will notify you when it’s time to book.
  • Price drop protection: Itineraries that Capital One Travel recommends booking now receive price drop protection, which will reimburse you up to $50 if your fare decreases in the following ten days.
  • Price match guarantee: Capital One Travel offers a price match guarantee for flights, hotels, and car rentals booked through its portal. If you find a cheaper itinerary that matches your booking elsewhere within 24 hours of booking, you can call Capital One Travel at 844-422-6922 to submit a claim.

Capital One also offers several paid products to make travel even more manageable, including:

  • Price freeze: Capital One Travel allows you to freeze a flight price for a certain number of days for a fee. If your ticket goes up during this window, you can book at the frozen price.
  • Flight disruption assistance: You can add this at checkout for Capital One to automatically rebook you on a different flight if something happened to your original booking.
  • Cancellation protection: Another add-on feature that allows you to cancel your flight through Capital One for a full refund. Although these tickets cost more than non-refundable options, they do provide peace of mind.

Is using Capital One Travel worth it?

Whether Capital One Travel is worth using depends on your travel preferences. It’s a fantastic way to earn extra points per dollar with an eligible Capital One card, but prices might differ from bookings made directly with the hotel or airline.

Plus, you might not find every flight, hotel, or car rental when searching in the portal. Another thing to consider is that booking through the portal is like booking with a travel agency. So, if you need to change your flight, the airline will tell you to contact Capital One, as they can’t change a booking made elsewhere.

As a Capital One Venture X cardholder, I always look in the portal when I need to book a flight, hotel, or car rental. I love the opportunity to earn extra miles on my purchases, so if the price is the same as booking directly with the provider, I’ll book through the portal. However, I don’t want to waste money, and it’s not worth the extra miles if I’m spending unnecessary dollars on a booking.

FAQs

Does Capital One Travel have good deals?

As with any travel booking platform, it’s often best to compare deals between multiple options to help find a good deal. Capital One partners with Hopper to provide helpful features in the Capital One Travel portal, such as predictive pricing, price drop protection on flights, and the option to freeze flight prices for booking flexibility. Prices on Capital One Travel are typically competitive with what you can find on other sites, but it still makes sense to compare your options. You can also receive offers from time to time, which give discounts on select bookings.

How many miles do you need for a Capital One flight?

Capital One miles are worth 1 cent for bookings through Capital One Travel, which makes it easy to know how many miles you’ll need for a flight. For example, if a one-way flight between Las Vegas and Los Angeles costs $39, you should need about 3,900.

Can you get miles when you use a Capital One card?

Yes, you can get miles if you’re using a Capital One credit card that earns miles. The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, the Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card, and the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card all earn miles on purchases.

Bottom line

Capital One Travel allows you to use your credit card rewards (or cash) for flights, hotel stays, and car rentals. It’s a booking portal that provides helpful features and an intuitive customer interface for any traveler researching booking options. If you have cards from a different issuer, compare prices between portals to see which is the cheapest. It’ll vary from time to time, but it’s always great to have added flexibility when planning your next trip.
