Express Is Closing These 95 Stores in 2024

Express shoppers might end up using their favorite rewards credit card a little less often in 2024: The clothing retailer is closing many locations across the country.

Express filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April, and that resulted in stores closing from coast to coast.

The closings affect both Express and Express Factory Outlet stores that sell clothing, accessories, and other items. Check this list to see if your favorite Express store is disappearing.

• 3111 W. Chandler Blvd., Chandler

Arizona will still have three Express locations after the closing of the store in Chandler.

California will still have the most Express locations of any state in the country, but these closings will drop the number of stores from 48 to 32 stores.

All three store closings announced by Express will impact the greater Denver area, leaving three other locations in Colorado open: Stores in Aurora, Littleton, and another location in Denver.

The closings in Connecticut include an Express Factory Outlet where customers could buy Express clothes, accessories, and other items at a discounted price.

The closed Express store was the only location for the retailer in the District of Columbia.

Miami will still have four Express locations after the closure of the Lincoln Road and Biscayne Boulevard stores.

Atlanta will still have two Express locations after the store on 18th Street closes.

The Express store near Honolulu was the only store in the state of Hawaii, leaving residents without an in-person option for shopping.

Chicago is losing two Express locations, but the store at Water Tower Place on Michigan Avenue’s famed Magnificent Mile will remain open.

The Southlake Mall location isn’t the only Express store in a mall that is closing as part of the shutdown.

Malls have been struggling in recent years due to the growth of online shopping, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the bankruptcies of companies such as Express.

Iowa’s two retail Express stores in West Des Moines and Coralville weren’t affected, while the three closings are all at outlet stores.

Louisiana’s three Express stores in the state will remain open. On the other hand, the factory outlet in Bossier City is closing.

Newbury Street in Boston is known for its shopping district and high-end stores that residents and visitors like to frequent, but they will have to do that without an Express store now.

The Sterling Heights Express in the Lakeside Mall was doomed when it was announced that the mall plans to shut its doors for the last time on July 1.

Express will be saying goodbye to its location at the Crossroads Center in St. Cloud, but seven other locations in the state will remain open.

• 7120 NW 86 Terrace, Kansas City

Kansas City residents will still be able to shop at the Express store on Nichols Road, which the company will keep open.

• 414 Gateway Mall, Lincoln

With closure of the Express location at Gateway Mall, Nebraska will be reduced to just one Express store for the entire state. That store is located in Omaha.

• 1300 Sunset Road, Henderson

While the Henderson store is closing, residents will still be able to choose from four locations in nearby Las Vegas that will remain open.

One reason stores like the one in North Conway may be closing is that customers aren’t returning to shop.

“They used to be good in 2010-ish and one day their quality wasn't worth the price tag so I stopped going,” said Reddit user Sad-Firefighter-5738.

New Jersey is losing five of its 17 Express locations. Paramus customers will still be able to shop at another location in the city.

The closings in New York include the Express flagship store in Times Square that the retailer opened a decade ago.

The retailer’s closing of the Express store at Northlake Mall is another blow for the struggling shopping center. It has lost several other retail chain stores, including an Apple store last year.

Express is headquartered in Columbus, but two of Ohio’s stores are closing anyway.

The closures of Express on Walnut Street and the factory outlet on Market Street leave Philadelphia with only one Express location.

• 400 Bald Hill Road, Warwick

Rhode Island will be left with only one Express store for the state after the closing of this location at Warwick Mall.

In a statement about the Express store closings, company CEO Stewart Glendinning said stores like the one in Franklin are closing as part of “an important step that will strengthen our financial position and enable Express to continue advancing our business initiatives.”

Dulles Town Center has struggled in recent years and a new investor recently bought the property to redevelop it. However, that move comes too late to save the Express location there from closing.

News reports say the Vancouver Mall has been bringing in more small businesses and local tenants recently. However, national retailer Express is walking away.

Outlets at the Dells will be without the Express Factory Outlet when it closes there. However, other retailers such as Coach, Nike, and Ulta Beauty will remain.
