For millions of Americans, Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are essential for covering monthly expenses. These payments help retirees, individuals with disabilities, and low-income households manage their budgets and eliminate some money stress.

However, in June 2025, some beneficiaries might notice a change in their payment schedule. Understanding these adjustments is crucial to ensure you can plan accordingly and maintain your financial stability.

Why does your payment date differ some months?

The Social Security Administration (SSA) typically issues payments based on specific criteria, such as your birth date and the type of benefits you receive. However, when a scheduled payment date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the SSA advances the payment to the preceding business day.

This adjustment ensures that beneficiaries receive their funds without delay, even if the original payment date is not a standard business day. Such changes can result in receiving two payments in one month and none in the following month, which can be confusing if you're not aware of the schedule.

When will your June SS payment arrive?

If you began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 or receive both Social Security and SSI, your payment is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3. For others, the payment dates are determined by your birth date:

  • Born between the 1st and 10th: Payment arrives on Wednesday, June 11.
  • Born between the 11th and 20th: Payment arrives on June 18.
  • Born between the 21st and 31st: Payment arrives on June 25.

These dates follow the SSA's standard schedule for distributing Social Security benefits.

SSI payments are typically issued on the first of each month. However, when the first falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is switched to the last business day of the previous month. In June 2025, the first falls on a Sunday, so SSI recipients will receive their June payment on Friday, May 30.

This means there will be no SSI payment issued in June, as the payment was switched to May.

If your expected payment hasn't arrived, first check your "my Social Security" account online to verify the payment status. If the payment has been issued but not received, contact your bank to ensure there are no issues on their end.

If the problem persists, reach out to the SSA directly at 1-800-772-1213 or visit your local SSA office for assistance. It's important to address any discrepancies promptly to avoid financial hardship.

Bottom line

Understanding the Social Security and SSI payment schedules is essential for effective financial planning. In June 2025, due to the first falling on a weekend, SSI payments will be issued on May 30, resulting in no payment in June. Regular Social Security payments will follow the standard schedule based on birth dates.

Staying informed about these dates can help you stretch your retirement dollars further and ensure financial stability.
