An overview of Lexington Law

Lexington Law is a credit repair firm that was started in 2004. Since then, the company has sent out more than 183 million credit disputes and challenges on behalf of its clients. In 2019 alone, Lexington Law clients had more than 1.5 million negative items removed from credit reports.

With offices in Utah and Arizona, the company serves customers in nearly all 50 states with the exception of Oregon and North Carolina. In addition to providing credit repair services, the firm also offers counseling in the areas of family law, criminal law, general consumer litigation, and some collection defense on behalf of consumer debtors.

Unlike other credit repair companies, Lexington Law leverages technology to yield more timely results for its clients. One example of this is that the company relies on digital partnerships with credit bureaus whenever possible, rather than exclusively using traditional mail, which allows it to move more quickly in disputing credit report errors. Another way the company leverages more modern solutions is with its mobile app, which allows customers to quickly check on the status of their credit scores and any ongoing disputes from anywhere.

What credit repair services does Lexington Law offer?

As with most credit repair services, the company starts its investigation by obtaining copies of your credit reports and analyzing them for errors or questionable items. If it finds anything worth disputing, it then reaches out to the credit bureaus on your behalf.

Sometimes this part of the process requires a bit of back and forth between Lexington Law and the credit bureau in question. In the interim, you can check the status of your disputes and your credit score through the Lexington Law online portal or mobile app.

According to the website, most clients spend six months working with the company.

Because credit repair companies can never offer a guarantee that their services will improve your credit score, it’s a good idea to have a basic understanding of your score before working with one. If you have a rough idea of where you need help with your credit, then you’ll have a better chance of picking the right level of credit repair service to achieve your goals.

Lexington Law offers three tiers of service so you can pick the right one for your needs. Here’s a rundown of each plan:

Concord Standard

This basic plan includes standard credit repair services such as bureau challenges and creditor interventions. Essentially, the company will challenge any errors it finds and intervene on your behalf.

This plan starts at $89.85 per month, with the first payment being collected five days after entering into a service agreement with the company. Payments are withdrawn every month thereafter until you choose to cancel your plan. The company also charges a one-time fee of $14 to cover the initial inquiries into your credit reports.

Concord Premier

This middle-tier plan offers everything in the Concord Standard plan plus several services found in the highest tier of plans. These additional services include score analysis, TransUnion fraud alerts, and the company’s patented InquiryAssist and ReportWatch.

Although these first two services are pretty straightforward, you may be wondering about the two patented services:

  • InquiryAssist keeps track of every hard inquiry an outside company, such as a lender, pulls on your behalf. Because too many hard inquiries can lower your credit score, this service works to help you track and potentially remove hard inquiries that are unauthorized.
  • ReportWatch is a tool that racks ongoing changes in your credit score. This tool also categorizes these changes into good, bad, or neutral, and sends alerts to you whenever one occurs.

This middle-tier plan starts at $109.95 per month, plus a one-time fee of $14.

PremierPlus

The most advanced plan, Premier Plus offers everything on the lower plans plus services, such FICO score tracker, identity protection, personal finance tools, and cease-and-desist letters. According to Lexington Law, this is their most popular plan.

Lexington Law states that the services listed in this plan provide additional and more rigorous monthly challenges and disputes, which may help customers reach their credit score goals faster.

This plan starts at $129.95 per month, plus the one-time fee of $14.

Plan discounts

If you choose to work with Lexington Law, you may be eligible for one of their discounts. The company offers 50% off the first month for veterans and active military. There is also a first month 50% family or household discount available when both you and your spouse sign up.

What we like about Lexington Law

  • Mobile app: With access to both iOS and Android apps, Lexington Law customers can easily track the progress of their disputes and any changes in their credit score.
  • Discounts: As previously mentioned, you may be eligible for a military or household discount when signing up for a plan with Lexington Law.
  • Easy cancellation policy: According to Lexington Law, most customers stick with the company for several months. But if you decide you no longer need its services, you can easily cancel your plan at any time by calling 800-341-8441.

What Lexington Law could improve

  • Not BBB accredited: In addition to not being an accredited BBB business, Lexington Law scores only a little over two out of five stars in BBB customer reviews. Although this doesn’t mean you should automatically rule it out, you should always proceed with caution when it comes to any financial service you consider purchasing.
  • No satisfaction guarantee: Unlike other credit repair companies, Lexington Law doesn’t offer any sort of satisfaction guarantee. This means you could go several months using its service without seeing any changes, and then be unable to get your money back. Other companies do offer satisfaction and/or money-back guarantees.
  • Expensive: Compared to other credit repair companies, the plans provided by Lexington Law are more expensive.

What Lexington Law customers are saying

Lexington Law has had numerous complaints filed against them, both via the Better Business Bureau and The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The CFPB filed a formal suit against Lexington Law in May 2019, and the lawsuit is active and ongoing.

Although some Lexington Law customers remain happy with the services provided by the company (you can see customer reviews on the Lexington Law website), the C rating on BBB is still worth considering.

As always, be sure to do your own research and due diligence before working with any credit repair company in order to decide what’s best for you. If you are experiencing financial difficulties and problems with how to manage your money, you want to make sure the money you’re paying a credit repair company is going to good use.
