Individual play: Since Solitaire Clash doesn’t have leagues, it's best for when you want to play independently. When you’re playing against other real players, you can’t interact with them through the app.

Lower entry fees: While Solitaire Cash’s standard entry fees start at $1, there was a promotion for just $0.70. The highest entry fee I saw was only $13 for a $63 prize pool.

Community: You can join Clubs in Solitaire Cash after you reach level eight in the game. These open up more winning opportunities and connect you with others who enjoy playing solitaire too.

Less deposit pushes: Although both games have ads that push you to deposit cash, Solitaire Cash is much less aggressive about it. Solitaire Clash pushes multiple ads when you open the app and again after you complete a game. While Solitaire Cash will offer a couple of ads enticing you to deposit money to earn bonus cash after a game, they aren’t as intrusive.

How does Solitaire Clash work?

Solitaire Clash is a classic Klondike Solitaire game and is developed by Avia’s Pocket7Games. I enjoyed playing it and earned the in-app currency of gems, bonus cash, and some real cash during my testing.

It works as you expect Klondike Solitaire to — you win by building foundation piles in ascending order and seven piles of alternate-color suits. A clock counts down from five minutes, and you receive bonus points if you complete the deck before the time runs out.

Solitaire Clash offers a selection of gem-only free tournaments and real cash reward tournaments. Its prize pools are higher than Solitaire Cash's, which means more risk and higher entry fees for the high-prize games.

I noticed multiple cash entry fees of $1 with prize pools ranging from $4 to $5. There are also options for combining the in-game rewards of gems and cash to enter cash tournaments. The highest tournament entry fee I saw was $55 for a prize pool of $195.

However, Solitaire Clash splits the prize pool among the top winners, so even if you place first, you won’t win the total prize.

Playing the various side games can also help you earn more. You can spin the Lucky Wheel, play scratch tickets, or do short-term challenges for gems or bonus cash that can help cover tournament entry fees.

The app lets you request a withdrawal with at least $2 in winnings. However, you’ll pay a $1 processing fee on withdrawals under $10, and bigger withdrawals come with a 15% service fee that is only waivable if you’ve used at least 50% of your deposits on entry fees. You’ll also forfeit any bonus cash you win, so it's best to plan withdrawals strategically.

Over two days, I played Solitaire Clash for a few hours and made a small deposit ($5) to test its features. By the end of testing, I earned 724 gems, $3.70 in winnings, and $6.62 in bonus cash, which I can’t withdraw but can use to enter more games.

How does Solitaire Cash work?

Solitaire Cash from Papaya Gaming, Ltd. looks and functions much like Solitaire Clash, especially when you’re on the game screen. While the gameplay is almost identical, the lobby area and tournament selections differ.

Solitaire Cash also has gems and bonus cash, and you can win real money, but it has a smaller selection of games. However, it has better side games, such as Towns, that award bonus cash you can use to enter tournaments.

Solitaire Clash features the more classic casino colors of green and purple with only about 10 tournament options based on my gameplay experience. I saw entry fees for cash tournaments that started at $0.70 for a prize pool of $2.20 (limited-time promotion) and went up to $13 for a prize pool of $63. So, the risk with Solitaire Cash is lower than with Solitaire Clash, but you won't earn as many rewards.

I played Solitaire Cash for two hours and deposited $5 of my own money for testing. When I stopped playing, I had earned $6.60 in withdrawable cash, $3.10 in bonus cash, and 670 gems. While I won several tournaments, I didn’t earn much.

Like Solitaire Clash, Solitaire Cash splits the prize pool among the top three winners, so you never receive the full amount.

Solitaire Clash and Solitaire Cash are legit games that pay cash and are fun to play. The gameplay and rules for both are highly similar.

Both apps are easy to start using, especially if you’re familiar with Klondike Solitaire. I enjoyed playing both games and had winning streaks during my testing. Of course, I also had losing streaks in each, but neither went on for too long as I’ve experienced with other gaming apps.

Both allow you to deposit money into your game wallet to help you enter higher-stake matches quickly. Solitaire Clash accepts deposits via PayPal, Apple Pay, Visa, or Venmo. Solitaire Cash lets you deposit cash using PayPal, Apple Pay, Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.

You can get rewards for making bigger deposits with either game. Solitaire Clash gives you 100 gems for a $10 deposit or $3 in bonus cash for a $30 deposit. If you deposit more, you may earn more bonus cash. Solitaire Cash, however, gives you $50 gems with a $5 deposit or 200 gems and $2 in bonus cash for a $15 deposit.

We’ve seen that Solitaire Clash and Solitaire Cash are both cash games for iPhones and Samsung devices with very similar features, but some distinct differences may make one appeal more than the other to certain players. Here are some of the main differences I found.

1. Prize pools

We saw above that Solitaire Clash has bigger prize pools, but it also has more tournament options for you to choose from. Solitaire Cash showed me 10 prize pool options for individual players, the largest of which was $63. Comparatively, Solitaire Clash listed 16 prize pools, the two largest of which were $140 and $195.

Winner: If you want to play for bigger stakes, Solitaire Clash is better since it gives you multiple options to help you earn more.

2. League playing

Once you reach level eight in Solitaire Cash, you can create or join a Club with other players. Belonging to one makes you eligible to go after bigger games, increasing your chance of winning more money. It also allows you to compete against other Clubs and earn promotions and weekly rewards. Solitaire Clash doesn’t have a community feature or leagues, but you can check your rank against other players.

Winner: Solitaire Cash comes out on top since playing with others might help you earn more and have more fun.

3. Side Games

Both games have side games you can play for gems and bonus cash, but only Solitaire Cash has an additional in-app currency called Gold Nuggets. You earn Gold Nuggets by competing in regular tournaments. You can then spend them on building different towns through the Towns tab (just to the left of the lobby).

As you complete each town, you earn bonus cash. Although Solitaire Clash has side games and awards bonus cash, they’re temporary. It's also harder to understand the rules of the Solitaire Clash side games while the rules for Towns are very straightforward.

4. Earning potential

Solitaire Clash has more earning potential and awards a higher percentage of the prize pool to first and second-place winners than Solitaire Cash. In Solitaire Cash, third place earns a higher rate of the pool than with Solitaire Clash, and sometimes fourth or fifth place also receives money.

For example, a tournament with a $1 entry fee and $5 prize pool in Solitaire Clash distributes the winners as follows: First place receives $3, second place wins $1.50, and third place gets $0.50. In Solitaire Cash, the same entry and prize pool is distributed as $2.90 for first place, $1.40 for second place, and $0.70 for third place.

So, if you come in third place, you would earn more with Solitaire Cash, but if you’re good at Solitaire, you’ll likely earn more playing Solitaire Clash when the tournaments and entry fees are equal.

Winner: Solitaire Clash is the winner since first and second place generally earn more than in Solitaire Cash.

5. Fees

Solitaire Cash charges a $1 handling fee on all withdrawals. Solitaire Clash charges a $1 fee for all withdrawals below $10, and larger withdrawals have a 15% fee if you haven’t used at least 50% of your deposited cash for tournament entry fees.

Let’s say you deposited $20. If you win $15 in a match with an entry fee of $5 in Solitaire Clash, you’ll pay a $2.25 processing fee on a $15 withdrawal since you spent less than 50% of your $20 deposit on entry fees. The most you could receive from your $15 withdrawal is $12.75. In Solitaire Cash, you would simply pay a $1.00 handling fee and receive $14.

You may avoid fees if you wait to withdraw money in Solitaire Clash until your balance is at least $10 and you’ve used half of any deposit on game entries. But in my experience, it can take a long time to reach that amount in withdrawable cash.

Winner: Solitaire Cash is the winner for its more straightforward fees.

What factors to consider before choosing

While both games are fun, you likely won't get rich playing either. You may want to look elsewhere if you’re looking for ways to earn cash with a side hustle.

However, I enjoyed playing both games and would recommend them, especially if you want to experiment with tournaments.

The low entry fees and prize pools make Solitaire Cash best for people who don’t intend to play high-stakes games. Since it has smaller prize pools and entry fees, you risk less and can play for fun. It's also best if you want to avoid potentially higher processing fees and don’t mind waiting to cash out until you have a withdrawable balance of at least $5.

On the other hand, Solitaire Clash is ideal if you’re willing to risk higher entry fees for higher rewards. Because it only splits the prize pool among the top three players (compared to four or more in some Solitaire Cash games), you’ll take home a bigger percentage of the prize pool if you win. Its $2 minimum withdrawal may also make it more attractive (but be careful about fees).
