A fast-food restaurant can give you a quick meal and help you keep more money in your wallet. But as the year ends, it might be more challenging to find a Hardee’s in your state.
The fast-food chain closed 39 stores in eight states in 2023 due to one of the restaurant’s major franchise holders — Summit Restaurant Holdings — filing for bankruptcy.
Other locations owned by different franchisees also shuttered their doors in recent months due to issues with rising costs or declining revenue. Check this list to see if your state lost a Hardee’s.

Kansas saw the closure of several Hardee’s locations due to issues with Summit Restaurant Holdings.
Restaurants in Wichita and Derby were abruptly closed, according to employees, who said they were given no notice of closures.
Missouri saw several Hardee’s locations close as part of the downsizing by Summit Restaurant Holdings.
Among the closings were two stores in Joplin — at 18th and Main and 818 S. Rangeline Road — and another restaurant at 2516 S. Grand in Carthage.
The franchise company also shut down a location at 200 S. Providence Road in Columbia, home of the University of Missouri.

Montana saw two different Hardee’s locations close this year.
In April, one of Helena’s two Hardee’s restaurants shut down. A sign on the door at the restaurant at 1919 E. Custer Ave. announced the permanent closure of the location and directed customers to the other nearby restaurant.
Billings Heights also saw its Hardee’s shut down. The closure was one of several restaurants that stopped service and locked their doors in Billings Heights this year.
Mandan, near Bismarck, saw several restaurant closings recently, including a Hardee’s that closed in August.
However, a few local restaurants opened during that time, including a coffee shop and barbecue restaurant.
Among the closings in South Carolina was a Hardee’s in downtown Fort Mill that had been in the same location since the 1970s.
As at other Hardee’s locations across the country, managers at the restaurant were caught off-guard when they suddenly received word to shut down the location in April and weren’t given an explanation.
Two Hardee’s in South Dakota were abruptly shut down in September.
Restaurants in Brookings and Mitchell were shut down a day apart from each other. The locations both closed down at noon that day without notice.
Employees were allowed to work for an extra week to clean the restaurants and were offered roles in other locations.
Casper saw two Hardee’s locations close abruptly in July.
According to reports, the manager at one store reported that the location on the east side of the city was permanently closed.
A second location on the west side also closed.
Fast food might not be healthy, but it offers a cheap meal to help you get ahead financially.
However, residents of the eight states on this list now have fewer options for a Hardee’s meal. That means they will have to look elsewhere for their fast-food fix.
