When did 99 Cents Only file for bankruptcy?
In April, 99 Cents Only filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and began liquidating its merchandise and closing stores.
According to documents filed in court, the retailer closed more than 100 locations by April 30, with the rest shutting down in May as part of the liquidation process.
How many stores were slated to close?
At the time, 99 Cents Only planned to shut down more than 370 locations. The move affected around 14,000 employees across stores in California, Texas, Nevada, and Arizona.
Why didn’t all 99 Cents Only stores close as planned?
In a bit of good news, some stores ended up surviving after the bankruptcy announcement.
Dollar Tree took on 170 locations that will now remain open, giving some locations a new lease on life. Customers will continue to have a great option to save money on a variety of items at a low price.
